Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes Footage Released

The first video footage from Hideo Kojima’s next Metal Gear project, the open-world Ground Zeroes has been unleashed to the masses.

It certainly looks great – the game is running on a high-end PC using the FOX engine but Kojima is aiming to replicate these graphics on current-gen consoles, which certainly won’t be an easy feat.

It’s not quite clear where Ground Zeroes fits in with the Metal Gear mythos, but Kojima has described it as a prologue to Metal Gear Solid 5 – confirming MGS5 is still on its way, too.

The game’s protagonist appears to be Naked Snake rather than Solid Snake.

Metal Gear fans, take a look for yourself with the video below and let us know if you spot anything interesting – there’s apparently a few more minutes of gameplay cut off, including the all-new vehicle gameplay, but for now, this should be more than enough to get you excited.

  2. I have alot of respect and admiration for Kojima-san, when it comes to storytelling the man’s a poet. Does anyone else see the irony that for a first look we get a 9 minute cut-scene

  4. It looks like it could have been a CGI film. The animations seem to be more fluid this time around. I wonder who the burnt man is? I suppose it could be Volgin but i doubt that even he can survive getting hit by lighting and then being burnt alive.

    • Possibly. I thought it could be Major Zero but can’t every remember him being fried at all.

      • Major Zero didn’t look that bad at the end of MGS4 when he ‘died’…..

      • I doubt it’s Zero as he and Big Boss went their seperate ways before the events of Peace Walker. And Big Boss didn’t bother to harm him in any way. It is possible that Volgin barely survived due to him being a walking plug socket but there had better be a decent explaintion for him surviving. It’s most likely a new person who we have never seen before and i suspect the final battle will end up being a bit of a disappointment because a burnt man is not going to be that much trouble i think. Unless it follows the traditional MGS final battle and throw in a Metal Gear or a CQC battle or both even.

        I can see BB getting caught and tortured again as i think in every game he has appeared in as the main character, he always get tortured. Can see the ending of this leading up to MG1.

      • mmm. That’s why I said “thought”, past tense. Probably a new character but that does not fit also. Yeah u are right about zero at the end of MGS4 that’s why I dismissed the idea but I would not be surprised if he is involved somewhere along the lines.

      • I think it’s he’s a Zero anti-hero slightly bonkers copycat type, that’s the impression the ‘XOF’ badges and ‘Zeroes’ title gave me. Like mikkie says, probably a new character, which sounds bad but all worked fine in Peace Walker. Speaking of which, this trailer was a major spoiler for anyone wanting to get to the 2nd red ending of PW, naughty Kojima.

    • I was thinking Volgin, but how they’ll explain him coming back to life would be interesting.

  5. Looks a bit shiny :D maybe it’s all that rain + i hope that ‘Fox Engine’ makes the most of the PS3(i.e it will look up to & beyond Killzone 3 graphics for the PS3 version :P If it looks exactly like the Xbox 360 version then Kojima really has sold out) :-/

    • Or maybe he wants to please the 360 fans of MGS by releasing a Big Boss game so that they can enjoy another MGS game whilst learning about Big Boss’s past. And does it matter if it turns out looking like the 360 version? As imo, it doesn’t as every MGS game i’ve played tends to have an excellent story. And i suspect he will be using either the PC as the lead platform or the PS3(which i can see him doing) due to how well his team knows the console/PC. And Graphics don’t make a game you know. If it did, then i would have a lot of crap games in my collection. ;) In fact, i think his team prefers using the PS3 as the lead platform. Not 100% sure.

  6. So 2013 or 2014 release on ps3 and 360, no pc due to piracy and whatnot, maybe it will also launch on ps4 and play on ps3 via the cloud.

    Looks like paz, chico and peace walker crew are back. The old guy looks like coldman btw…

  7. I think it’ll be a ps3 title, but also one of the first to be released on next gen. And it’ll make every one but it twice.
    I think it is certainly meant to show that it’s after PW as two child characters in that game were mentioned, that must be adults by then. Who knows who that baddie is though….

  8. I think the kid in the cage is Raiden, although I was hoping it’d be Solid Snake.
