The Crash Team Racing 2010 Game That Activision Cancelled

Quick, everyone brush off your best Naughty Dog “3 games then a carting spin-off” jokes, it’s time for some Crash Team Racing news! Not good news, though, so don’t get your hopes up. This news relates to the cancelled project that was supposed to be released in 2010. Some screens have emerged and are swiftly being removed, presumably at Activision’s request.

The game was supposedly being made by former staff members of Naughty Dog and Insomniac Games in a new studio called High Impact Games. That studio is responsible for the PS2 port of Secret Agent Clank, along with several iOS games and, interestingly, Dreamworks Superstar Kartz. It was cancelled by Activision but presumably just rolled up and reskinned into the largely ignored Dreamworks licence that Activision didn’t seem to market much anyway. Good call, business dudes!

  1. I’m glad this wasn’t made.
Every Crash Bandicoot game after Naughty Dog was complete crap.

The only good Crash racing game was the original Crash Team Racing.

    • I actually enjoyed Wrath of Cortex on PS2 (the first ever video game I owned), though that was just copying the blueprint of Warped, so it’s cheating a bit :P

  2. People have to stop making these spin off karting games. They always expect them to be massive hits like mario kart but they just end up being flops that no one really buys.

  3. Crash Bash was FUN(with 3 other real people sitting next to you) LoL:D I miss Crash :( I hope he is in that PS3 fighting game :P

    • Ok I’ll give you Crash Bash as well but only because EuroCom made the game as close to Naughty Dog’s crash world as they could!

  4. Ah. I fondly remember the start ‘start your engines for another naughty dog creation!’. CTR was great. My brother and I spent countless hours on it. This and Hogs of War were multiplayer PSOne heaven. Still thinking about picking up CTR on Vita but know sometime a)nostalgia is best left alone and b) it was the multiplayer that made it great and I’d be very surprised if that’s in the code over wifi.

  5. CTR is the only PS1 classic I have bought, still play it now :D Even thought his would of been cool I would prefer to keep to the classic.

    • I’m exactly the same, I’ve bought CTR oh and International track and field; two of the best multiplayer games from the PSone era.

      • Yeah love split screen on CTR :D

My god, just looking at how many spelling mistakes I made in my initial post :/

  6. Good, Activision suck. Low res 600p games in 2012.

  7. Loved all the Crash games, am currently playing them again on the Vita since 1.80 firmware update. Can’t wait to get stuck into CTR again, loved that game when I was about 12 or 13. The Crash games are still good after all the years, and with the popularity of games like Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, etc, I think somebody’s dropped the ball by not giving Crash Bandicoot a run-around on the PS3. Even if it was just a HD Classic, I know I would buy Crash 1-3 and CTR and platinum them all in a couple of weeks!

  8. Aww what a shame. The Madagascar Kartz game which is essentially a reskinned Dreamworks one is passable so I’d doubt it’d have been stellar but I just wish they’d let these games come out instead of taking things out the pipeline when its half done grr

  9. The original CTR is better than most karting games, even some of the Mario Karts. I still play it on the PS3 when the lads are round.

  10. The original CTR was amazing.. nothing could surpass it :)
