Finally, the PS3’s trophy system will be getting the tweak many people have been waiting on for nearly a year with a new Firmware update – the ability to see the PS Vita’s trophies from the PS3’s XMB. The pile of silverware will also have a new home: under the PlayStation Network logo (rather than the Game menu). You will also be able to see your Trophy level and progress towards the next level while viewing your trophy collection, says the US Blog.
You can view every single PS3 and PS Vita trophy here in our trophy list.
However, the new firmware brings about something of a negative – the retirement of the Life With PlayStation service, and that includes the Folding@Home software.
“We will stop offering the Life with PlayStation application to new users with the 4.30 update,” says the blog. “This includes the conclusion of our participation with Stanford University’s Folding@home, a distributed computing project aimed at understanding protein folding, misfolding and studying the causes of a variety of diseases such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s as well as various cancers.”
More than 15 million people used the Folding@Home software on PS3, contributing over 100 million computation hours. The official TheSixthAxis team reached the top 300 teams in the world this year, and I’m sure many will be sad to see it go.
PS3 Firmware 4.30 is expected tomorrow.

For me, I never used Folding. But I think its a strange decision to get rid of such a helpful app that can really make a difference.

Love that I can finally see Vita trophies on my PS3 but would be nice to see who is online on Vita from the PS3.
stueeeee
I hoped this will include being able to see online Vita users but progress has been made in making the ecosystem more consistent.
However the loss of folding@ is a questionable one. I for one used it quite often to listen to music as u could select different themes of music and it would judge. I also liked being part of the sixthaxis folding team and checking the leader boards every month or so…..
How about a farewell folding @ home post??

Has anyone else notices that now the new store is up you cant recommnd games to your online buddies.

I only folded a few WU’s, but it still seems pointless to take away the feature.

RedStar’s PS3 can finally get a little rest. ^_^
shame about removing the Folding app though.
i could understand not making it available anymore but to remove altogether.
maybe somebody found a way to hack it or something.
if they’re going to update the way trophies work, how about making them send trophy information every time you earn a trophy rather than having to do it all together, which takes ages and usually fails.
clearly sony need to fix their servers as this and the repeated download failures would seem to indicate.
that would be a better improvement than just moving the icon to a different column.

All we need now is the ability to see our Vita friends on our PS3’s Friends List…

I know why Folding did not gather a great momentum. Folding lacked trophies ;-P
stueeeee
Although its good to see the ps3 still get supported updates, I think it’s a little late in the day to be shuffling things around on the XMB and taking features away…

I don’t fold like I used to, but it’s a shame it’s been taken away from those that did.

Think I used it twice since I first owned my original PHAT. Still seems no reason to remove it for people who did use it.
