UK Games Charts 11/02/13 – Dead Space 3 Lurches Into Top Spot

No surprise this week as Dead Space 3 claims the top position in the chart. It’s probably safe to say that Visceral’s horrific stroll through necromorph-infested Tau Volantis is the year’s most high profile release so far. The bad news is that it sees a 26.6 per cent decline on Dead Space 2’s opening weekend sales a couple of years ago.

It’s also notable that the split is even more heavily weighted towards the 360 this time around with the PS3’s share of Dead Space sales dropping from 40 per cent with the second game, down to 31 per cent of Dead Space 3.

Ni no Kuni drops from holding last week’s top spot down to sixth. FIFA is still going strong in second with Black Ops II and Far Cry 3 keeping the Hitman Trilogy HD collection in fifth. That re-release of old Hitman games is outselling the newer title in the series, which manages to take ninth place ahead of Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed despite that title seeing a new format in the 3DS this week.

Interesting movement outside the top twenty: GTA IV is in twenty-first position with the Episodes in thirtieth place. That’s no doubt been fuelled by the recent anticipation for the fifth main line instalment of that series that unfortunately won’t be out now until September of this year.

Here’s the top twenty:

  1. DEAD SPACE 3 – ELECTRONIC ARTS
  2. FIFA 13 – ELECTRONIC ARTS
  3. CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS II – ACTIVISION
  4. FAR CRY 3 – UBISOFT

  1. Still a strong second week showing for a platform exclusive. Go Ni No Kuni! :D
Around 20 hours in the game and I just can’t put it down.

  2. Thoroughly deserved top spot for DS3. Personally out of the three games it’s my favourite (better pacing, more varied, side missions, co-op, etc, etc). Should hopefully have my first playthrough done by the end of the week so I can start the co-op properly on some crazy difficulty.

    • Yeah I’m really enjoying what I’ve played of it so far ill save my opinion on wether its the best of the trilogy till I’ve finished my play through but so far so good :)

  3. hmm, where did Forza 4 come from, a little surprised to see it pop up.

  4. I always thought that the general public was as good informed as the TSA community, guess not now I see DS3 so high on the charts.

    • I’m willing to bet that more than 90% of the people who bought DS3 have never heard of the microtransaction fiasco.
We, the well informed gamers that follow these kinds of news on a regular basis, are the minority.

    • Lol I’ve read all the negativity on here about DS3 (its getting old now) your choice is not to buy it and i made my own choice to buy it micro transactions or not and I haven’t had to spend a single penny on micro transactions to play or enjoy the game i don’t Know where this conception has come from that you have to HAVE TO buy these things. I’ve read a lot about DS3 i was we’ll informed as you put it and chose to buy it doesn’t make make thick or daft and i don’t like a lot of games and I will mention it not just over and over again at least Isaac hasn’t got about 100 costumes available for him like DOA Motalla that could be classed as bleeding the public of there money but then you don’t have to buy them either do you.

      • Completely agree about the whole Microtransaction thing. Providing you stop to pick up resources along the way you soon have more than enough to build yourself a decent weapon without having to hand over any real-world money.

Like other “shortcut” packs available for games (Need for Speed, Battlefield, etc) this system is simply in place for those people who just want a head-start. Personally I prefer playing through the game and earning these things but the fact is they are optional, not required.

Hell, you can even buy these packs using credits you acquire in-game! Oh, and you can use the resources you purchase as many times as you like (providing you scrap your current weapon of course to free them up).

As you say, blown out of proportion and just a sign what a bunch of moaners the gaming community has become.

      • The thing with costumes in DOA5 is this: you pay more in order to get less (clothes). I wonder what the “ultimate” costme dlc will consist off … But we can all dream ;)

  5. Didn’t enjoy the DS3 demo too much so i’ll wait a while before purchasing. I didn’t try the co-op mode though so I may play the game that way.

Also need to get the Hitman HD trilogy…once i’ve finished my current backlog of games! Buying it now would be silly.

I’ve never had a gaming backlog before…working for a living is overrated!

  6. I’m not surprised that Dead Space 3 has sold less copies on launch day then DS2 as it’s been turned into a piss poor gears clone or from what i’ve heard. Apparently, the dark corridors and jumpscares are gone or are very predicatable as well as the focus on fighting humans instead of just Nercos. Am surprised it’s at number one though despite the controvesy.

Am surprised that Agent 47 has managed to get into the number 5 spot.

    • 95% of DS3 is typical Dead Space (dark corridors, jump scares, zero-g sections, etc).
A very small section of the game sees you shooting some human enemies but this is NOT a Gears/COD clone as so many people seem to be claiming. If it is I’m clearly playing the wrong game as it certainly feels pretty Dead-Spacey to me :-P
This is typical EA hate and nothing more.

      • Hear hear well said LTG.

      • Oh, then they’ve not destroyed it, tis good to hear. :) Should have been 100% nercomorph though.

  7. Skyrim is still in the charts its amazing…

  8. I see “give me the bloody ring” is still in the charts at No 17.
