Today’s Evolution of PlayStation video focuses on the PlayStation 3, skipping over the PSP as some of us thought it might. It mentions the first reveal (at E3 2005) and from there on in manages to tick off pretty much every buzz word you can think of.
There’s some good points: the PlayStation Network, Netflix and Plus, but it’s light on details. I guess that’s the issue with a two minute sting like this (that’s still pushing the Meeting on Wednesday) but it would be lovely to see a big, meaty documentary at some point.
Until then, our History Of PlayStation 3 post from last week might be up your street.

Not long now :)

I guess they show PSP tomorrow and PS Vita the day after that.
gazo69
Yep, that’s what I think!

Poor Ken (Kutaragi) :( I miss Ken. I know he was mad(well in a fun way for me) but most Genius are :D Cool video ;)

Half of that was an advert for Playstation Plus. Not as nostalgic as the previous two videos. Not even a guest appearance from Kevin Butler!!? The previous videos looked at marketing campaigns of old. Perhaps there is a contractual agreement preventing them from using any of that stuff now.

Don’t see the point of showing mobile consoles for a build up to a new home console.
bunimomike
Yep. Irrelevant unless they play the second-screen card.

PSP for Mon and Vita for Tuesday then.

Doubt they’ll show the handhelds, they’ll probably focus on the games next perhaps?

these videos are cool, a little potted history.
but, what do they mean by a larger hard drive?
larger than what, the PS2 never had a hard drive, well they did have the option, in the us and japan anyway, but that wasn’t standard so.
and i wouldn’t say the games we get with Plus are free, i consider them to be part of my subscription, therefore i’m paying for them.
anyway, i wonder what will be next, the portables?
PSP and Vita.
or will they highlight some of the unique features and software of the Playstation line.
a video about Home next?
i just realised, isn’t the Miiverse thing on the Wii u like a stripped down version of Home?

I think it would be reasonable to suggest that the fee for PS+ pays for the other features it offers – cloud-based saves, overnight patch installation and server sync, discounts on full-priced and indy games. The downloadable titles put in with the package are an awesome extra, and I would consider them free.

The larger hard drive bit is confusing, I think they either skipped a few important words and meant to say ‘later with the slim a larger hard drive’, or this was scripted in Japanese and they just meant larger memory but it got lost in translation. Or maybe they just meant ‘large hard drive’? Their choice of words and content seems a bit ameteirish, the PSN and explosion of multiplayer online is surely more important than Plus. It’s an odd video, not one that really reflects what I like about the PS3 and its games and features anyway.
I hope they do the PSP and Vita next, they are still PlayStations.

If these videos are the History of Playstation then why are they advertising games that haven’t been released yet?
The Last Of Us & Bioshock Infinite Skies, I’m looking at you.

“New level of motion-control gaming never before seen on a PlayStation console” LMAO Good choice of words. This one is more like an advert that a short documentary like the previous two.
