Shop.To has become the first retailer to list PlayStation 4 games for sale and the Recommended Retail Price (RRP) for the titles seems to be £10 higher than PS3 titles, meaning new releases will cost £59.99 rather £49.99.
Of course most UK retailers discount games by around £10 which is why we are used to a £39.99 price point for PS3 games. ShopTo are discounting PS4 releases by 19% which means Diablo III, Second Son and Drive Club can be pre-ordered for £48.85.
Judging by the preview we have seen, the PS4 games are extremely detailed – doubtless costing more to produce – so it wouldn’t be a surprise if the games cost more to purchase.
We will have to wait and see if Activision stay in line with everyone else as they moved the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Call Of Duty: Black Ops II up to the £59.99 RRP.
The online retailer has also listed the PS4 console with a wallet numbing £399 price tag, pricey but still £25 less than the cost of a PS3 at launch. ShopTo list the RRP for the console as £449.
Obviously, this is all subject to change but it gives us a good starting point for discussion.

I’ve already pre ordered mine with shopto. I have a funny feeling that price will come down. Sony don’t want to put people off with a stupid price tag like they did with the PS3. I reckon they might release a couple of varients with different features and hdd sizes so they can have a ‘budget’ one and a ‘premium’ one to make it accessable to more people.

Just trying to get early hits and free press…. oh it worked!

wouldnt buy from them anyway. Shit company for customer service. (especially the boss) ……. i’m still blocked from their twitter feed and was offered no apology by their staff when i contacted them. They lost out on quite a lot of money from me.

Well i think £399.99 sounds about right.
get me a PC rig that can do what the PS4 can do so far for £399.99 so no complaints from me if that is the price…
However i think the price will be determined by MS move! Sony will not want the gap to be so big, and it looks like they have allot of tech in place. Gaikai tech, streaming my games to ustream, uploading awesome kills / other great gaming moments. It all seems to be really good for me!

Meh, I’ll gladly pay £499.

But I don’t like games getting more expensive.

£399 for a console is nothing nowadays, same with £50 for a game. I spent more than a game will cost just popping for a bite to eat and a couple beers after work last night. People don’t even blink when they pay about £4 for a beer but moan at £50 for a game which is far better value than 10 pints!

“meaning new releases will cost £59.99 rather £49.99.”
Ah well that’s alright then. NOT. -_-

This is where PS+ will play a great role.

I disagree. With all the added power it should be far easier to achieve such graphics. Worst case could mean they need the same amount of effort to polish a game so a price hike it hardly reasonable. Sony switched to very standard components. It should ba far easier to code for the PS4 than it was for the PS3.

Just consider what evolution were saying about modelling the carbon fiber and suede interior, to the level of detail they claim to have, and the modelling of the headlights. Sounded like a lot more work than developers are currently putting in. I don’t see that an increase of power will make it easier to produce, but will rather push the upper limit of detail higher, which clearly means more work. That said, I am merely a consumer, and don’t really know how to develop games and such, just speculation on my part.
So the games and consoles would appear from this to be increasing, but when you consider inflation it doesn’t really mean an awful lot. Current economic conditions would place those prices above what many people would be willing to pay though, especially when you consider that you could buy a Wii, Xbox 360, or PS3 for a far lower price, with a huge back-catalogue of games.

You are right, but that is expected of first party exclusives that try to showcase the upper spectrum of the new hardware’s possibilities.
I’m sure the next COD, BF or FIFA won’t be that much more complex to develop compared to what we have this gen.

Hopefully the prices will come down, they’re just making the most of the hype train and getting people’s orders in early.

pure speculation on their part i bet.
if sony had actually informed them of the rrp, all the relevant stores would have it listed.
