God of War: Ascension is a good game – scoring 8/10 in our review – but it’s not quite as good as God of War III. However, one thing it does do “well” is cause a little bit of controversy.

The latest thing? One of the game’s trophies – “Bros before Hos” – caused quite a stir when Revision 3’s Adam Sessler made a issue of it in his review. Linking the trophy (not entirely accurately) to stomping the head of a certain female antagonist, it has been the subject of much debate online on messageboards for the last few days.
And Sony are changing it.

A new patch, due soon, will change the trophy name to “Bros Before Foes” – it loses a little of the meaning but apparently this will satisfy those upset. “We have created and will soon push out a patch for God of War: Ascension that alters the title of one of the game Trophies,” says the statement.
“The text was offensive to some members of our community and impacted their enjoyment of the game,” Sony Santa Monica’s statement noted. “We are endlessly committed to ensuring that our community can fully enjoy the experiences the team has created. As such, we’ve addressed the feedback and amended the Trophy in question.”
The trophy isn’t – despite what some have said – triggered directly after the “stomping”, rather related to something another male character does (that’s non violent).

It’s crazy that this phrase is what people pick up on playing a game like God of War. Sony should give people the choice of getting the trophy with the current name, or not getting it at all.

So it’s okay to beat Zeus to such a bloody pulp that the screen goes red, and it’s okay to rip off heads, rip out guts and rip out eyes, but as soon as a trophy pops up that is a reference to the popular internet saying everyone goes batshit crazy. I hate how gaming is trying to become this fully PC, bland form of entertainment. Take a little joke every once in a while, it may improve how you view things in life.
