I’ve already written a dozen paragraphs on why releasing Gran Turismo 6 on PlayStation 3 is a smart idea for Sony – you can read them here – but tonight US retailer NewEgg (who don’t actually sell eggs, in any condition) have listed the game for pre-order.
It’s out of stock. Discontinued. Never coming back.
But it’s there – look – and it’s down for the 28th of November. That’s right about when the PlayStation 4 should be making its way towards (at least one set of) shelves, you’ll note.
Sony’s Michael Denny started all this. It’s all his fault. “Look at the games coming out on the PlayStation 3 like The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, GT6, and then on the third-party side of things another fantastic Assassin’s Creed, GTA,” he said in a recent interview.
So, there you have it. Hardly 100% concrete proof, but at least one retailer is sticking their neck out and saying “this is when we think Gran Turismo 6 will appear” and that’s good enough for me.

How bizarre, I thought Denny’s GT6 comment was just a PR cock up, maybe listing the game for preorder is just a publicity stunt but its certainly interesting news. It’l alsol be interesting to see what the game is like if it exists, I can’t see much of an engine upgrade happening but more campaign and trophies would surely be popular. Less Vettel Red Bull challenges though please Mr Polyphony!

I looked on NewEgg about 20 mins ago but couldn’t find it, but I didn’t look that thoroughly.
A PS3 PS4 release at the same time?
bmg_123
Hm, still don’t see why they’d give DriveClub impossible competition when they could just as easily pool resources into a PS4 sequel…
tonycawley
Surely they’ve only listed it because he said that?
Jakster123x
I was thinking the same to be honest, but it does look likely, and it does make sense, that GT6 is coming to PS3, and then maybe there will be some sort of GT7 prologue for PS4.

I’d like to hear more info about GT6, it’s hard to see what more they can add into it that can’t be added to GT5 as DLC.

Would be a perfect reason to keep the PS3 plugged in. :)

Indeed, it’ll be Winter and the house will need heating…..trusty black box of tricks :P
blackredyellow
Does anyone REALLY believe it’ll release on time though?
Zephyre
Precisely what I was going to say. Even if PD had given a release date I’d take it with a JCB load of salt based on previous releases
Boiler
I’m with blackredyellow. No chance it’s making that deadline.
My prediction is that the release will slip 6 months+ to Q2 2014 while the PS4 is ramping up and everyone is playing Driveclub. By that time I wouldn’t be surprised if they take the decision to upgrade the game for PS4 (Sony will help them out with the $$$) because they may have to go back and re-model some of their cars and tracks.
Then GT6 will release in 2015.
Remember how we all thought that GT5 was going to release in 2009? Then PD confirmed release as summer 2010. Then it got delayed 6 months to November.

I’d be kinda excited but the fact that it isn’t a PS4 game is annoying. The PS3 has been massively inferior for years and it doesn’t help that I see spending money on a new model with a big HDD to be a waste.
Kennykazey
Buy a bigger harddrive and put it in your current one?
Boiler
Are you really going to buy a harddisk just so you can play one dated-looking game on old hardware?
And one that might not even release this year?
And could eventually make it to the PS4?
Save your money for the moment. PS4 is just round the corner. You can decide what you want to do come November.

Financially (short term) it would make sense to release it on the PS3, however a PS4 release would greatly help shifting those important launch units to get a foot hold in the race.
If GT6 suffers from pixelated cars behind smoke, low resolution shadows or PSP quality cars again, I will completely avoid it.
The PS3 is simply not powerful enough to achieve their desired level of quality on all layers throughout the game. Just give me a PS4 version…
Boiler
….and will be releasing alongside the PS4 that has Driveclub.
freezebug2
Wasn’t this expected? After finding out that GT6 is definately a PS3 release a while back, and the games main engine (no pun intended) is already developed with GT5 it’s just a case refining the nuts and bolts (aah why not) for the next sequel.
Since the reveal that GT6 is to be a current gen title I’ve always suspected a Winter release to be honest and don’t find this snippet to be of any surprise.
BRING IT!!!! ;)
blackredyellow
Another shiny platinum to add to your list, no doubt.

Don’t know about that mate, the Special Events might be even more difficult than the Vettel challenges in GT5 which took an age to get gold medals on, not to mention friction burns from my DFGT wheel !!! :P
