It Looks Like Call of Duty Ghosts is Heading to Next-Generation Consoles Too

Remember that mission in Black Ops II where you rode a horse? Well, I’d like to link that to a nice little joke about Tesco’s burgers, but it’s half past eleven on a Sunday night and my weekly bad joke quota doesn’t reset until 9am tomorrow morning, sadly. So, just pretend I’ve said something funny in the first sentence. There we go.

Tesco, then, seem to be as good as leaking information about the newest Call of Duty title – Ghosts – as their suppliers are at leaking horsemeat into their beef supply. Not content with showing us the game’s box-art before any official announcements, they put a succinct description of the game up on their site a bit earlier.

It’s gone now, unfortunately, but with the magic of the internet we’ve dug up a screenshot of the site, which sits nicely next to that leaked box-art in the gallery below. I wanted everything to be as clear as possible so I’ve added a Tesco logo and a silly man doing motion capture with a silly fake gun on his silly horse for Black Ops II, just so you all know what I’m talking about.

In case your computer is (or your eyes are) doing that thing where you can’t view images, the description is as follows:

The franchise that has defined a generation of gaming is set to raise the bar once again with the all-new Call of Duty: Ghosts. Published by Activision and developed by Infinity Ward, the studio that created the original Call of Duty and the seminal Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series, Call of Duty: Ghosts ushers in the next generation of the franchise, delivering a riveting all-new gameplay experience built on an entirely new story, setting and cast, all powered by a new next-generation Call of Duty engine.

It’s nice to see that they’re doing something different and the new engine should be good – they’ve been using an upgraded version of the Call of Duty 4 engine for this entire console generation.

Not only that, but they’ve listed the release date at the 4th of November. That might not be quite as accurate but it should be a good indication of when the next generation fully gets going. I wonder if they’ll remember the Wii U for this one, or even make a decent Call of Duty game on Vita…

  1. I think they might lose a lot of initial sales if it comes out before the next-console release date. So hopefully that is an indication that next-Gen is at the very begging of November. hopefully Sony do not delay the ps4 until 2014 because I dont want them to fall behind like they did last time, with the ps4. If the xbox is ready when Ghost comes out and the PS4 isnt I can imagine all the Xbox people who were very much considering turning to Sony will by the next Xbox so they can play Ghosts on Next-gen straight away.

  2. I wouldn’t hold my breath for a decent cod game on the vita as the last one just about passed for one.Shame but that’s my opinion, maybe others liked it.It’s nice to know they’ll be a new engine for this installment,i shall keep my beady eye on this to see what direction they take.

    • Souldnt we be able to play the PS4 version on the VITA via remote play?!

  3. That’s my Xmas pressie sorted then ;-)

  4. If Sony don’t bring out PS4 this year, then they will lose a lot of gamers to the Xbox in Europe, because people wont hang about and will want COD. So they need to make sure they get it out asap.

I’m not too fussed about COD, I’ll be on BF4 anyway, I hope. Horses and guns is interesting though

  5. New engine sounds good. The current one is a heavily modified idTech 3.

  6. My bad joke quota has reset! Although, since last week’s were so bad, I’ve only been allowed half a joke this week. So, here you go:

A horse walks in to a bar.

  7. So CoD on next gen pretty much confirms PS4 release date . Unfortunately CoD love or hate is a system seller. Sony just need to push the benefits of getting ps4 with COD .

    Ps4 with COD , 21st century fish & chips

  8. Cannot wait for the new engine, the age of it really has been starting to show these past few games.
