PayDay 2 Switches From Digital Download To Full Retail

505 Games has revealed that PayDay 2 will become a full retail title on Xbox 360 and PS3. The game had originally been announced in February as a digitally distributed title but it appears the game has become too big for that due to the inclusion of various gameplay elements.

However the PC version will remain as a download via Steam.

I quite liked the premise of the original PayDay: The Heist which gave you an opportunity to pull off robberies in a co-op fashion. Of course I wouldn’t condone those kind of actions in real life but it was an interesting scenario to put into the games world. The only other big title I can think of that came close to simulating a bank robbery well was GTA IV.

PayDay 2 is being developed by series creators Overkill Software who released the original PayDay: The Heist in 2011 as a digital title. The game itself is set to be released in August this year.

  1. An interesting move. Getting this on store shelves could greatly improve the series’ presence and may catapult to the “next level”. Look at games like Sniper Elite V2, Ghost Warrior, and Dead Island. Though the latter /did/ get decent marketing in the UK they were all surprising chart-toppers. Hopefully PayDay 2 will find similar success.

  2. Awesome I heard it has 30+ Heist which is brilliant. The original (currently playing it) only has 6 (2 added as DLC) in total 8 Heist.
Such a brilliant game with great replayability (Thanks to Random Elements in the game) And a great game for a 4 player co-op/team.
Looking forward to play it on August.

  3. Let’s bet the first will be part of PS+ in June or July then. I know US has had but EU hasn’t.

  4. I never bought the first game but it was quite interesting. Not sure if £29.99 would win me though but its screaming Steam Weekend Madness in a few months…

  5. If they lessen the crushing difficulty on this that the first one had, i might try it.

    • Aw c’mon Overkill isn’t that Bad. I completed 2 Heist on Overkill. Platinum very soon……

      • Yeah but, you see the thing is, I’m painfully aware of just how limited my gaming skills are and with what tiny amount of free time have, I don’t particularly enjoy the struggle as much as when I had nothing but free time. These days the experience, the journey, is infinitely more important than the challenge and while i liked the ideas in the first game, it was just too tough for me to get a lot of enjoyment out of personally. Good job on the (nearly) platinum though, some achievement, definitely!

^^ Since becoming a Dad 7 months ago I must admit this description fits me more and more each day. Typically I squeeze in an hour of gaming each evening, apart from Fridays when I can usually find closer to 4. As a result, any game which is particularly challenging, or indeed heavily story-driven, normally gets shelved in favour of something less taxing like COD or an arcade game. Strange really as, prior to becoming a Dad, challenging single player games were my favourites :-)
