It’s actually just happened. Jack Tretton has just stepped on stage and received the biggest cheer of the day after stating that the PS4 won’t block used games. A completely direct assault on Xbox One, and one which has no doubt made a lot of people at Microsoft a bit worried.
He went on to say that you can trade games in, sell it on or lend it to a friend – there’s no system in place to stop you from doing this. You don’t have to even be online – there’s no “24 hour check-ins” quips Tretton, digging the claws in deeper.
Detailing the frankly awesome online features, such as cross-game voice chat, playing games while downloading and the all new social features, based around a “real world” friends network, he confirmed that PlayStation Plus will carry over and be required to play online multiplayer games.
But you’ll still get plenty of rewards, however – you’ll get immediate access to the “PS Plus” version of DriveClub for free at launch and there’ll be a new free title every month, including some of the recently revealed indie titles. This is the same PS Plus that gets you all of those free games on your PS3 and Vita, mind.
This is all good news, really, bar the online multiplayer paywall, which Microsoft imposed with the Xbox 360 eight years ago.
Also, they’ve just posted an amazing video showing how to share your games on PS4, which you can see below:

Anyone that doesn’t have PS+ really should get it not for the multiplayer but for the games. It was going to happen at some point but with + you get free games and more benefits than you do with XBLG. People put off from that should look at the benefits…..

I’ve never questioned PS+ as value for money, XBL Gold is another matter. The price of a ps4 plus a ps+sub. Will still be less than the Xbox one on its own.
Plus they usually do discounts on ps+ renewals (for the time being)

i’m disappointed they’re putting online play behind a pay wall.
but they’re actually giving a hell of a lot of content for that sub as well as just charging people for online play.
that makes a lot of difference, at least to me it does.
and no preowned lockout or online requirements.
this is light years better than what ms is doing with the x1.
sony just won as far as i’m concerned.
i’m actually tempted to get a PS4 at launch now.
if i can scrape enough money together, it will be very hard to resist..
great video too.

Great news. I’m not too bothered about paying for multiplayer as Plus is such a no brainer. If that’s the one downside it’s nothing compared how bad the xbone seems.

I actually nearly pis#ed myself with that video!
Fantastic!

Haha, I just watched it. Shu’s always great, but that blonde guy (wish I knew his name) is pretty cool too. I hope that video goes viral.

I hope all the people claiming “Sony are too quiet, they’ll have the same restrictions because EA forces them” are finally happy now :)
PS+ required for online play will upset some people for sure, but it’s still great value with the instant game collection.
All in all, I’d say Sony killed the XBox1 tonight (and they really seemed to enjoy it) ;)

It made sense for them to wait and unveil all of this at their E3 conference. They delivered blow after blow after blow to Microsoft, and the audience were lapping it up. Hell, gamers worldwide were lapping it up.
Sony have pretty much won now, I just hope they focus some of their marketing on the fact that they have no used game restrictions or DRM.

I couldn’t believe it when the incredible Jack Tretton said that. Damn.
Sure, i’m sort of surprised online gaming is no longer free, but you get it by being a Plus member, which is £40, and gives you several games every month over 3 PlayStation Platforms.
That’s sort of a good deal.

Quality video.
I already subscribe to plus so makes no difference other than if I’m paying for it now, I might as well play online more

That video is hilarious! :D
