God Of War: Ascension Gets New Mode And Maps

Santa Monica Studios has released title update 1.09 for God of War: Ascension, cramming the game with new maps and the long-awaited “Bout of Honour” game mode.

Champions will finally be able to settle grudges in Ascension’s in Bout of Honour, an all-new one-on-one duel to the death. Two opponents will go head-to-head in a best-of-seven match, set on one of the four new maps brought in to support the new mode. Based on sections of the singleplayer campaign these include the Canyons of Kirra, Chamber of the Flame, Landing at Delos, and Streets of Sparta.

The developer has even thrown in an additional map based on of the game’s latter portions. The Whirlpool of Alecto will feature a Leviathan which will continually disrupt combat with its attacks. This latest map will support Ascension’s four-player online modes.

Unfortunately, for those who prefer bigger team games, there are no new 4 v 4 maps. However, with all this free content, it’s hard to complain.

1.09 also ushers in a number of tweaks and balances with a few weapon modifications here and there. Speaking of weapons, it looks as though we’ll be getting an all-new category to add to our armouries. A brief clip taken from the trailer above shows a Champion donning the Cestus, two giant fists that Kratos has donned in previous God of War games.

  1. first time i played this was today.
    updates took me ages…
still cant grumble with the freebies..

  2. Sounds like a good update. I wonder how popular it is.

My favourite is definitely the 4v4 matches, capture the flag and favour of the gods (is that right?). But the matchmaking is so slow and keeps restarting for me, so it makes it impossible to just jump in for a quicky.

    • By “it” I mean the multiplayer.

    • Same here. Haven’t really got time for 1v1 or 2v2. Capture the flag works surprisingly well. Have had plenty of close, intense games.

    • Don’t know what Sony do with matchmaking, Uncharted 2 & 3 can take forever too, it’s practically unacceptable!

Don’t know why Sony haven’t focused on it more, they’re going to need to up their game when people are paying for multiplayer on PS4…

Microsoft are certainly focused on greasing the online pipes
