DriveClub Pre-Order Bonuses And PlayStation Plus Edition Detailed

Ahead of their Gamescom press conference at 6PM, Sony have detailed the three exclusive pre-order bonuses for DriveClub, which are different depending on which store you pre-order your copy of the game with.

Each of the three packs has an exclusive livery design, instant access to a supercar (which you can presumably unlock by playing through the game) and a “boost of fame to increase your driver level”. These pre-order bonuses include a Special Mercedes SLS AMG Coupe pack, a Special McLaren 12C pack and a Special RUF RT12 R pack.

You’ll also get 50% off a 12-month PlayStation Plus subscription when you purchase the game. Not forgetting that you get a ‘free’ edition of DriveClub with you PlayStation Plus subscription, they’ve also went into detail about what that version will feature.

[drop2]The PS Plus edition will give you “an exciting selection of cars across all five classes, beautiful locations and exciting race tracks featured that you can play in all game modes” but won’t include all of the content to be found in the game, unless you choose to upgrade.

You can either buy a complete upgrade to the full game, or just buy individual items as you go along, which sounds like a neat way of doing things. Everything you’ve unlocked will be carried over, too, but the PS Plus edition doesn’t sound too limited.

Oh, and over on the right there is the box art for the game. It actually looks quite nice, doesn’t it?

  1. I hope they announce it will run at 60FPS later, or there’s no way I’ll get the game.
The PS+ sounds like a F2P version with IAP’s for unlocking individual content which I like the sound of very much.

  2. but can someone who buys the PS+ model still compete with the retail version?

I liked the idea of getting a free new game for a PS+ sub, but its starting to sound like a F2P model that is not suppose to require a PS+ sub to play. kinda seems like all were getting is the opportunity to buy more Driveclub dlc or IAPs

    • To me, Driveclub PS+ edition sounds more akin to GT5: Prologue. A more basic game I suppose, but not entirely stripped of features like most (imo) F2P games are.

    • It’s feature complete, but just doesn’t have all the cars/tracks.

    • it may not be stripped of features, but removing cars and tracks from a racing game is like removing levels or maps from a FPS. The cars and tracks are the bread and butter of the game. How long can someone play the same few tracks with the same few cars? especially when other racers are going to be running faster/better cars so a PS+ version car won’t have a prayer to win. It may not be as bare as a F2P game, but its still going to require another investment to even the playing field, so its definitely following the F2P business model. IMO its either a F2P game or a demo, and neither should be advertised as a free game.

      • It’s free, they aren’t really advertising it because you aren’t buying it. If they called it a demo or a F2P game what difference would that make? It’s just semantics. I doubt many people will make their decision about PS+ based on this anyway.

  3. I think I’ll go the P+ route and see what the game is like first, then upgrade if I love it. Makes sense as I’ll be getting P+ anyway.

    • Nice to have a freebie…. though heres hoping somethign to match Fifa will be joining it also :)

  4. Hi I’m new but I must have to disagree with this plus edition & the phrase plus is good value for money.

Yes it was till now, imagine plus titles like sleeping dogs, batman arkham city, saint row2 been watered strip down to the basics imagine BF3 been water down with-out MP.

But I’m seeing a trend from Sony it all started going down hill for plus users & Sony to cut cost starting with uncharted3 a free plus game ND Sony’s friend that too is a watered down game without MP the drivelub is no more then a premium demo not a full game as other plus games were, & it truly disgusted jack Trenton to say we getting that as he smiles to the press people knowing dam well it not a full game.

See more watered down version as a plus member in the coming months. :(

    • PS+ is one of the greatest purchases i’ve made in my all my years of gaming, and is amazing value for money they didn’t have to give people games and alot of them are great titles i’ve also got to try games i would maybe never thought of buying some gems i’ve had PS+ since day one, also there isn’t the catalogue of games the PS3 has available for the PS4 yet,and Evolution and Sony need to make some money from one of there top launch titles as it is being released for PS+ day one and a vast majority will have it due to the online requirement of Plus now,so i don’t think it’s a biggy at this early stage to ask a fee to upgrade to the full retail product, anyway i think PS+ has been a tremendous addition to playstation and anything now that also helps the company and the network as a whole is a good thing, and in the next few days ill be extending my PS+ sub from 2014 to 2016 with the 15 month offer.

  5. Might be worth buying the retail game to get 50% off a 12-month PS+ subscription if you can stack it like all the past PS+ offers. It will depend how much it costs to upgrade to the full version though.

  6. It all depends on how much it is to upgrade from PS+ to full. If that works out less that the RRP then it’s still a good deal. No one knows this yet, so I’m reserving judgement.

The game looks very tasty. I hear that the handling is a step up from, lets say, a Need for Speed, in terms of realism and that appeals to me.

  7. Nice to see a Marussia on the cover of a game. :D
