What We Played #128: Star Citizen, Tearaway & The Wolf Among Us

What We PlayedBest laid plans and all that… well, after returning from my travels I ran out of weekend before I could continue playing the awesome Beyond: Two Souls so my only gaming (and I use that term loosely) has been my weekly wander and drive around my Star Citizen hanger. So many ships and nowhere to fly them!

Blair’s been playing Tearaway for a preview, the embargo for which lifted earlier today. Aside from that and the “excellent” first episode of The Wolf Among Us he’s been reduced to watching his flatmate play through The Last Of Us “and realised it isn’t great until the second half” at least once you’re past the opening section anyway.

Resident news hound Tuffcub has played a whole bunch of games this week. His PlayStation Vita has been exercised with the “odd” Touch My Katamari, the “fun” When Vikings Attack, the “really quite enjoyable” Assassin’s Creed Liberation and a bit of Killzone Mercenary multiplayer. Of course that’s not enough Killzone for our TC so its big brother had a run out on his PS3 too.

Elsewhen (that should totally be a word) on his PS3 he’s still trying to “get over how bad” Saints Row IV is. “It looks awful. I mean seriously shite, like a 360p movie on YouTube. Loved SR3, [but] this is silly, there is no point for vehicles when you can run faster than them, the aiming is stodgy and did I mention just how shit it looks?”

That’s actually led to him giving GTA V a spin and “damn it I may – just may – be starting to like it. Skipping the cut scenes avoids most of the melonfarmin’ swearing”. Dangerous times indeed. Then he was struck by a desire to download Metal Gear Revengeance but was short of HDD space so a cull of games was required. What followed was a quick play and vote on a bunch of older titles…

  • LittleBigPlanet Karting – Shit, deleted.
  • Joe Danger the Movie – Loading times beyond belief, deleted.
  • Hitman Absolution – Sort of fun, but a bit grim, survived the cull so far.
  • Lara Croft And the MacGuffin of Something or Other – Really, really enjoying this. What a fab game.

Only just back from holidaying in places where The Internet doesn’t exist Aran is playing that all-too-familiar, frustrating single-player game called Inbox Emptying. If you see him about the place you could always enquire as to how his fight against both colleagues and The Evil Spamlords is going.

Kris has been playing The Wolf Among Us, the first of Telltale’s episodic Fables games. “Two hours feels like a pretty good length for an episodic title and both the season pass and the individual pricing work well. The only thing the mildly annoys me is that everyone seems to assume that ‘comic book style’ means cel shaded, although I suppose other art styles would be harder to pull off with a 3D environment.”

  1. Finished Dirt 3 (at last!) and started another bargain pick up, Lego Batman 2. Gonna be severely hanging out my arse tomorrow (DiscOver launch party tonight), so gonna play through Lone Survivor (thanks again TSA!) and eat Dominos.

  2. Nothing but the vita this week. Been playing persona 4 golden, am addicted, the game been sitting on my vita for a good 3 month didn’t touch it, but this week played none stop. I never laughed so hard at a game but I love teddie lol.

Kinda reminds me of yu gi oh when I was growing up, the duel cards

  3. I have delved into my gaming backlog again this week and I’m currently playing through Hunted: The Demon’s Forge … it’s not too bad.
I’ve also been playing Pilotwings Resort on 3DS as I picked it up for a tenner recently, it’s good but I still prefer the original.
I also downloaded and played a few games of NBA 2K13 (courtesy of PS+) but I soon deleted it as I didn’t really find it particularly enjoyable.
Had a laugh on Wednesday at the F1 2013 meet … even though THL (who’s meet it was) didn’t turn up.

    • Re: F1 2013 meet Apart from the plague of disconnections it was good, I managed to get 2 or 3 races in.
Latest news is that Patch #2 has released for PC so there might be a glimmer of hope for a console patch on it’s way (usually a single combo of the PC patches).
The only way around playing multiplayer races I’ve found is that when switching on and finding a randomer race online (usually only for one race before everyone gets a DC and the game then shows that there are no lobbies or players online) is to then exit the game and re-boot, which usually has to be done after each race.
Bit of a sad state of affairs that we are being sold Beta games disguised as full releases but sadly it’s become the norm these days. PS3 is a cracking console but badly let down by the game releases and support it needs to do it’s job.

  4. Trying to finish GTA V, loved The Wolf Among Us, Hotline Miami on Vita is killer and right now I’m gonna dive into Enslaved and its 3D mode.

  5. I completed a second playthrough of Beyond Two Souls, trying to do the opposite of everything i had done first time – but i regret experimenting by leaving the controller idle during that final ‘dodging’ qte scene.. :/

I played the Magrunner demo expecting it to be fairly poor and was pleasantly surprised. The demo puzzles weren’t too taxing but the ‘newness’ of the puzzle mechanics got my brain engaged.

Also played the Alien Rage demo which is fairly old school but challenging. The lowest play difficulty is actually called ‘Challenging’, as it happens.

Last night i played the some of Remember Me, up to the first Memory Remix section. I’m liking almost everything about the game so far, except the combat. I had a feeling i wouldn’t enjoy the combat anyway as it’s not my thing but i’m not giving up on the game yet as i’m enjoying the story so i’ll keep going as far as i can.

Then, just before bedtime, i played a bit of Lone Survivor which i won here on TSA. I only got a half hour or so (4 in-game sleeps) played so i’ll tuck in early tonight and continue it on the Vita. So far i would describe it as quite charming for survival horror game. :)

  6. Finished the main story & most of the side missions in gtav, just 2 strangers & freaks left.(Think these are the spaceship parts & mystery letters collectibles, so probably have these done in a few months. Hate collectible’s)
Started an old game in my backlog last night, F1 2010, not bad if you like an irritating Scottish git criticising your driving every time you overshoot a tight bend ;)

  7. Not much for me, completed Dishonored on High Chaos, picking up most of the awkward trophies on that playthrough, so gonna start the DLC then a stealth playthrough next….before returning to GTA. I also played a few demos to clear some HDD space including WRC4…which was ok but the brakes are USELESS, all you use is the handbrake which is just a bit daft! Thought the FIFA 14 was poo (way too easy to knock the ball around unrealistically), and the Pro Evo 2014 wasn’t much better (too slow paced) but it’s gradually improving.

On Vita I got the Aces High trophy on Killzone Mercenary although I had to get into the top 480 in the leaderboards to get it! I also got the last multiplayer trophy for playing 100 multiplayer matches. Not looking forward to the remainder of the 10,000 kills grind though. Such an annoying and pointless trophy imo.

I still haven’t touched any of my new goodies such as The Wolf Among Us, Rain, TLoU DLC or Beyond: Two Souls :(

  8. F1 2013….That is all!

  9. Not a great deal this week. Realised the online for Black Ops 2 is pretty much dead unless you have the DLC, so I’m finished with that game. Made a start on Halo 3 as it is free this month.
Selling my remaining Xbox 360 and games this month however to a family-friend so, for the first time in well over a decade, my house will be officially game-free until the Xbox One arrives.

  10. I categorically deny that there was any stroking, and I belong to no one! Oh, you were talking about a spaceship… ;)

Some Hotline Miami which proves once and for all that I really suck at 2D twin stick games, and Blops2 MP. Bloody typical that they put a double xp week on when I’m going on holiday and will miss most of it.
