Far Cry 3’s Lead Actor Was Replaced Due To Deus Ex

Jason was Jensen.

Adam Jensen, star of Deus Ex: Human Revolution was voiced by Elias Toufexis and at last weekend’s MCM Comic Con in London he revealed he was also the voice of Far Cry 3’s Jason Brody for two years.

“I shouldn’t say this, but there’s a game called Far Cry 3, which I’m sure you guys know, where I had played Jason Brody,” said Toufexis. “I played him for two years, did the voice and when Deus Ex came out they replaced me because they were nervous that… ‘we don’t want people playing this game and thinking of another game.'”

He describes the decision to replace him as “understandable” as Jensen is such a popular character.

It is odd that Nolan North has never faced the same problem, he sounds exactly the same in Uncharted as he does in Assassin’s Creed and Spec Ops: The Line. His ever present voice within the gaming world was honoured by the Saints Row IV team who included a special “Nolan North” option.

  1. Brody was a pretty forgettable character imo. Vaas stole the show, great dialogue and great mo-cap made him a great character.

Maybe Toufexis would of added more to Brody, I liked him in Deus Ex, but I still don’t think he would as been as good as Vaas.

    • Agreed; if he was Vás then it would be instantly recognizable.

    • Yeah definitely, in the third person cutscenes Jason’s character seemed a bit wet but the first person dialogue moments came across brilliantly because he barely did anything but listen to Vaas or one of the other lunatics rant, then have a brief outburst, then you got control and the action continued! It worked well but I’m intrigued about what it could’ve been like with Toufexis, two years seems a very long time so presumably he had a lot more to say as Jason.
