PSN usually goes down for maintenance about once a month. It means that you can’t use the Store, account management or any of the other things you never usually use but really need to access just this once on the specific night of maintenance. It’s usually a Thursday.
But now, Sony are mixing things up a little and taking the network down on a Monday. Because after a weekend, and a rubbish day back at work, you just need to be inconvenienced that little bit more.
Thankfully, it’s only from 17:30 until 23:30 GMT. Peak time once again. If you’ve signed in before the 17:30 deadline then you should be able to play games online as your authentication details will be cached, though this is subject to change.
There may also be additional downtime through the night as Sony test whatever it is they’re doing this time.

Ive got no problem with maintenance, what i do have a problem with is that its always GMT who suffer, never America peak hours or Japan peak hours its always UK/Europe.
Online is no longer free as mentioned above and is lutterally 2 fingers up to Uk/Europe users yet again.

Its particularly weird when you consider that EU is their biggest market, so you’d think we were the last people they’d want to stick 2 fingers up.
Ooh, matron!

Does this mean if you sign in to PSN on the iPhone app and keep signed in ’til after half 5, I’ll be able to sign in on the PS4 when I get home?

That’s a bloody good question – might be worth asking that on the PS forum, may get an answer from one of the community bods :-)
