Community Round-Up: 22/03/14

Wow, this week wasn’t exactly light on news was it? We had Sony’s VR headset announcement, saw a glimpse of what Ubisoft’s gorgeous looking Snowdrop Engine can do, inFamous Second Son was released yesterday, and to top it off, Bear Simulator was announced!

But enough about the news, let’s shift our attention to TSA’s regular features for this week’s Community Round-Up.

CRU Banner - meets COD

Time for just a quick reminder about the Dead Nation Plus Point Challenge Competition, for which you need to get your entries in by next Sunday.

Onto the Meets, and there’s actually nothing scheduled right now. Of course, you can expect the usual meet ups for GT6 on Monday, and the like, but feel free to pop your own one down though and join those regular meets.

CRU Banner - article - mgs

It looks like I need to write another stern email to Stefan as there aren’t any new Previews this week – perhaps we’ve entered the slight lull as games are actually releasing?

Aran did manage to grab an interview with Indie Developer,  Ivan Mandić, about his game Nucleotide, so he gets the brownie points for this week.

In the Reviews, PS4 exclusive, inFamous Second Son, which was released yesterday fared well, receiving a 9/10 from Blair who also gave 9/10 to SteamWorld Dig.

Stefan took a trip to Cuba in Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, although wasn’t overwhelmed by the amount of content you get, so gave it a 6/10, suggesting at the current price it really is only for die hard MGS fans.

The final Review game from Dan, who looked at Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney. Giving it a 7/10, describing it as a good game, but sadly it “doesn’t come close to touching the best that Professor Layton or Phoenix Wright has to offer.”

Although not quite a review, Aran and Tuffcub joined forces to share their thoughts about Final Fantasy X HD & Final Fantasy X-2 HD, rather than give you two separate articles to read. Similarly, Dan shared his thoughts on the new Thief game.

From the regular gaming features, Blair sliced n’ diced with Surgeon Simulator Touch on Mobile Watch, while Luftrausers appeared on Indie Focus from Stefan. Jim then revisited God of War Ascension in PlayBack, and Aran looked at BioShock Infinite in a Matter of Perspective.

The Blogs were pretty busy this week, first with Stefan talking about Titanfall’s missed storytelling opportunities, while Jim spoke about the balanced nature of the game. Finally, Blair pondered Project Morpheus and what that means for the future of the PS4.

From the Community articles, the Chronicle discussed the potential Sony’s VR headset which was yet to be announced, and also talked about the Video Game BAFTA’s in Hot Topics. WeView this week saw Batman Arkham Origins not get quite the same levels of praise for WB Montreal as Rocksteady was used to, while Battlefield 4 is the new game for you to vote on.

Ending off the articles in the usual way, there was just a trio for Podcast Episode 133, while What We Played #148 featured Borderlands 2, Titanfall and FFX HD.

The Forums were fairly quiet this week, but rummaging around brought up the following:

I haven’t got much planned for this weekend apart from some Uni work, so I hope you’ve all got something better planned – let me know in the comments and I’ll see you next week, bye!

  1. Thanks for the Sonic trophy plug, it’s just a boost for the team Sonic trophy….one of those daft one’s that make a mockery of the hard work put into completing the game! :P
