What We Played #149: Trials Fusion, Final Fantasy X HD & inFamous Second Son

Ever fallen in love with an NPC? There was a time a while back when I felt quite attached to Liara, but why mention this now, three years later? Well, rather than playing games this week, Blair has been working on his dissertation and has a little survey running along those lines. He’d appreciate a moment of your time to fill it in. He needs a good result to get a job that’ll pay enough to cover his tab at the student bar.

Peter has spent most of his gaming time on inFamous Second Son, as you’ll have gathered if you’ve been paying attention to TSA’s front page. “It’s the most visually impressive game I’ve seen on consoles so far, so it’s a lovely game to get on PS4 and show off to people. Still a long way to go but I’m enjoying it so far and I’ve been well and truly caught up in trying to get all the side missions and collectibles in each area.”

As a counterpoint to beating up people for dealing little blue pills to desperate old folk and burning alive law enforcement officials, he’s also dabbled with the beta for Trials Fusion, “which is like more Trials so that’ll do for me. It’s a bit of a change of design in that it’s more futuristic and there’s a lot more going on in the background with explosions and level elements moving around.”

inFamous Second Son

Someone else who is “really enjoying” inFamous Second Son is Dom, who’s squeezing it in between running his pub (I’m reliably informed taht Blair is barred) and playing through Final Fantasy X HD on his PS Vita. He said, “It just works so well. The beauty of not always having to find a save point is great, and the graphics hold up extremely well on the OLED screen.”

I fear this is turning into an iFSS advert, but I guess that it is the most recent big release. Stefan has begun his second run through and is trying to play as a hero on expert difficulty.  “It’s hard to be such a goodie two shoes,” he said. That was after completing “Irrational’s excellent swan song, in Burial at Sea, Episode 2.”

We’re still not done with iFSS as Aran is yet another one playing it:

It’s fun and I love using the DS4 as a spray can. Definitely one of the most inventive uses of the controller so far. Gameplay wise, it’s thoroughly enjoyable and I’m doing a good playthrough at the minute, meaning I have to hold a lot of restraint when I run into protesters who would rather see me dead. I can’t wait for my evil playthrough, so I can wreck everything without remorse.

For review this week he’s been playing The Witch and the Hundred Knight, which “could be better and is let down by some pretty bad design faults”. His review should be around later today, so check it out.

Last up this week is Dan! “After becoming slightly obsessed with the Lego movie, I decided to get the game on PS4. So far so good and everything is awesome! I also played Mario Golf: World Tour on the 3DS, which has the makings of a very addictive game!”

And that’s it from us. Have you all been playing iFSS too?

  1. Gotta get me FFX soon, I’m so happy there are no issues on the Vita version. I think I’ll opt for that one first. Who am I kidding, I’ll probably buy both.

Bought and finished SteamWorld Dig on Vita this week, fun game with some good ideas. If it ever gets a sequel it needs to be expanded and tweaked in order to have a long lasting appeal like Terraria. The trophy classification was also quite puzzling. Bronze trophies for finishing the game in 2.5 hours and without dying? No, thanks.

Funny thing, I had pre-ordered South Park: Stick of Truth from Canada and didn’t receive it for almost 4 weeks. Yesterday I thought I’d check the building bulletin board if there was any sign of it and voila! Someone just pushed it behind a bulletin. I was too happy to be frustrated. Anyway, played about 2-3 hours so far and looking forward to play more.

Games really gave me a nice outlet to take a break from all the political chaos and mayhem in my country these days (our dictator of a PM banned Twitter and Youtube in the same week, and is now working on Facebook and we have local elections this Sunday, the integrity of which is in peril).

  2. Oh and FEZ is ready to be played on my Vita this week. So much goodness this month!

  3. Been playing through resistance 3 coop this week with my brother before the servers go offline, I’m sad I never played it sooner as it really is a brilliant game! Given infamous a good go and really enjoying it, though it’s not as good as infamous 2 in my mind! Other than that, been finishing up dragon age 2 and finally got round to giving shadow fall a go online and it’s brilliant! Not enjoyed mp much on anything in the past but having lots of fun so far

  4. South Park Stick of Truth: Got the platinum trophy this week, so that’s all finished. Loved the game, and getting the platinum wasn’t too bad really.

inFamous: Second Son: Started, haven’t played much yet. Girlfriend is away for the next week though, so I’ll spent my spare time on it then. Hopefully platinum that as well.

Final Fantasy X HD: Playing on my Vita. Bit annoyed by the occasional lag (Wakka using his blitzball in battle sometimes, Ixion’s overdrive), but they’re not frequent enough to bother me, since I still have FFX on the way to/from work and at lunch time.

Football Manager 2014: Loaded up my Surface Pro to realise I still had this open, so did a bit of management in 2022 with Levante in La Liga. Need to build on the last two years in the Europa League and try to win that and qualify for the Champions League next season.

  5. A lot of Infamous Second Son and a lot of Rayman Legends on Vita, with a bit of extreme BF4 rubber-banding thrown in. Have started playing Destiny Of Spirits after getting addicted during the Beta last October.

  6. Muddled through Killzone Shadow Fall’s campaign this week. Of it’s 10 chapters I loved two (4 and 5), hated two (7 and 8) and was indifferent to the ones left over. I can see Guerrilla wanted to break the mold a bit and offer up something different, but the game is at it’s best when you are just shooting Helghast. Currently working through the game again, picking up all the collectibles I missed.

I also had a copy of Knack arrive yesterday so I made a start on that last night. Despite the “meh” reviews I’m actually really enjoying it at the moment. Nice bright visuals, challenging gameplay and an almost “Kameo” feel to it. Granted I’m only on chapter 4 so far so fatigue may kick in after a while, but I figured it would be worth the £14.99 asking price.

Oh, I also played the demo of Fez (loved it) and played a bit more Titanfall.

  7. Mostly Infamous Second Son, clearing out each sector as i go and i’m just over half way through. Such a good-looking game, I’ve grabbed and posted more screencaps for this game than anything else so far on PS4.

Also i noticed PS3 Minecraft got it’s TU14 update last night, loads of new additions to check out so i’m probably going to be drawn back into that for another while – or at least until the PS4 version is released! :)

And one or two attempts at the Dead Nation comp but i’ll give it another go tonight before i send my best score in.

Oh yes and i tried the FEZ demo. It has oodles of charm but i’m not sure whether it was the limitations of the demo or what but i found myself unable to go anywhere else after getting through a few doors and I got a sense that i might become horribly lost in the full game so i’m going to hold off for now.

    • From what I’ve heard, drawing maps on scraps of paper is practically essential in Fez

      • Thanks for that, I was actually thinking that as i played it :)

  8. Just infamous second son for me this week,I bagged the platinum last night. I throughly enjoyed it :-)
Oh I did try the Fez demo, and I didn’t think it was up to much,I may give it another try tonight.

  9. The only bit of PS4 action I’ve seen this week was on Sunday when Tef, Wick, Youles and myself played some more Extinction on CoD Ghosts. We managed to escape the Nightfall map with me using a relic. was pretty tough but its definitely addictive. Hopefully we can do it again this sunday and get more of the trophies.

On Vita I’ve been playing Ys: Memories of Celceta and I only need one more trophy for the plat now. The problem is that the last trophy is for finding all the resource points and I only need to find one more. I have been everywhere at least twice now searching for it and I just can’t find the bugger. So I’ve decided to take a break for a while from it and Start FFX on Vita. Gorgeous looking version of it but that Titus chap is a bit of a dick

  10. Managed to acrue over a thousand stars with Angry Birds classic on the Vita and still haven’t completed all levels before even looking at the other two games from the trilogy….so addictive!

Off topic, one of Shopto’s Monday/Friday Happy Hour games(1.00pm-5.00pm) for today is NFS Rivals PS3 discounted to £14.85….bargain!!
(Thought I’d post this here as forums are tumbleweedy and time’s money!)
