Community Round-Up: 04/10/14

Unsurprisingly, this week’s edition is jam-packed with previews hot off the press from EGX last weekend. For those of you that did go, what was your favorite game of the show? Were there any hidden gems that you think might have slipped under peoples’ radars? But before you take to the comments, spare a minute to read this week’s Community Round-Up!

CRU Banner - meets gt5

On the TSA Meets this week, we have the usual GT6 on Monday, Red Dead on Tuesday, and Battlefield on Friday.

If you would rather play something different, you can add your own Meet to the list, provided you have more than 250 TSA Points.

CRU Banner - article - alien

It was a very quiet week for the Reviews, with Dan giving Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments a 7/10 because, while the visuals and freedom while solving puzzles were great, he felt the game was let down a bit by clunky gameplay and poor voice acting. Peter then gave Alien: Isolation a 9/10, saying the aesthetics and gameplay make it a brilliant survival horror game.

There were far more Previews though, beginning with Dom, who took a look at the co-op and characters from Fable Legends. Aran brought us articles about Flame Over, Bloodborne, Lords of the Fallen and RIVE, which is a mixture, going from Firefighting to Souls-style fighting and Indie Platforming. Something for everyone!

Meanwhile, Blair also covered a range of titles, including Tearaway on PS4, and Volume from Mike Bithell, (who Blair interviewed too), while Stefan spoke to Al Hope about Alien Isolation.

Kris also popped up with his impressions of Lumino Citya puzzle game with an interesting visual style, and also Beyond Eyes, a game where you guide a blind character, before Asphalt Overdrive, one of the many mobile racing games, featured in Mobile Watch with Jim.

In last weekend’s Chronicle, Playstation TV, Wipeout’s Devs and PS Home featured, while the latest WeView is for Watch_Dogs following Child of Light’s unanimous Buy It Verdict.

And lastly, after a week off, Jim has taken over What We Played #175, while there’s also Episode 155 of the Podcast ready to be listened too.

The Forums are still down, so all that’s left for me to talk about is this weekend’s F1, which has already happened bright and early this morning. So, with that in mind, please delete as appropriate: “What a fantastic pole for [Hamilton/Rosberg/Chilton], I can’t wait for the race tomorrow!”. That surely covers all the realistic options, so have a good weekend and I’ll see you next time. Bye!

  1. I’ve only just caught up with the F1, crazy to hear Vettel is leaving. I want to see him win another WC in a car other than a Red Bull, but not in a Ferrari! That also means Alonso is likely to shove Button out at McLaren which is a shame, but at least it increases the chances of us getting podiums again!

    • Vettel needs to prove to his doubters that he’s as good as his record states….or not.
I hope Button can keep his seat at McLaren, Alonso has some bridges to build with Ron Dennis but Ron always wants the best drivers in his cars.

      • Yeah, Ron will always put the team first which is good, but it will be a shame to see Button go and see McLaren without any British drivers.

  2. Can’t praise Alien enough. After a few hours, admittedly on the easiest difficulty, been suitably unnerved by the combination of the esthetics, music and creepy as he’ll Working Joe’s. Nice one Creative Assembly.

  3. Got stuck at a level in Catherine. So I am trying to platinum Spec Ops The Line.I want to make all the other choices this time.
Meanwhile I continue going on in Borderlands 2 solo (I had connection problems all week).

    • Good luck with Spec ops platinum, it’s tough but do-able. Thoroughly enjoyable ;)

      • I have to complete it on Hard mode first and then on FUBAR. But it’s enjoyable because of the story. I don’t feel like it’s a grind (at least not on Hard difficulty).

      • Yeah Spec Ops is a b**** to plat, but its my most proudest plat.

      • Yup, Spec Ops FUBAR difficulty is on a par with some of the hardest out there. The likes of COD World at War Veteran difficulty spring to mind and could satiisfy a comparison!
I only really found the final chapter of FUBAR difficulty to be the almost controller breaking experience comprising multiple checkpoint retries.
Way I played was to tick checkpoints rather than think end level and slowly inched my way to the goal.
Mind, completing that desert scrapyard chapter around halfway through the game was a defining moment that deserved high fives!

        Good Luck, helluva journey ;)
