We knew that the PS4 2.0 firmware update would be available today, but if you’re about this morning then you can get straight to downloading. It’s 218 MB in size, so shouldn’t take long to download if you have a half decent internet connection.
This update allows you to change themes of your PS4 as well as the colours of your home screen, play music (MP3 or AAC) through the PS4 via a USB device, upload videos straight to YouTube, and more. Perhaps the most interesting feature is Share Play, which lets you play a local game over the internet, streaming to your friend’s console. The video below explains that in more detail.
In the update notes, there are some extra features which we didn’t previously know about. Those include being able to set the length of time your controller will charge on standby (now named “rest” mode), a list of voice commands in settings, mouse functionality, easy sending of voice messages, quick access of notifications by using the PS button when they appear, and battery notifications for new devices.

“being able to set the length of time your controller will charge on standby”
Shouldn’t it just stop when fully charged?

It does, and the light on the controller goes out when it’s charged.
What the new option appears to do is turn off the power to the USB ports after being in standby (sorry, “rest mode”) for 3 hours. Controllers don’t take that long to charge, so it’s not an issue there. But if you happen to have a handy USB cable hanging out of the front of your PS4 all the time and want to use it to charge a phone, remember to change the setting.
Because some muppet decided to set it to 3 hours by default. We had a choice of on or off before (with off being the default, which was a bit silly for various reasons) and now we’ve got a 3rd option. If you’d left it as off before, it seems wrong to turn it half on, and if you’d deliberately set it to “on”, it really shouldn’t be automatically changed to “off-ish”. Don’t go changing settings for your users, especially if they’ve already changed things themselves.

The playstation remote play feature on the Sony z3 works now too.
Let’s me play velocity 2x on my phone which is pretty cool.

One change that’s easy to miss:
If you want your PS4 to automatically download firmware updates and game updates, and upload save data to PSN, you need to (re-)enable it via Settings -> Power Saving Settings -> Set Functions Available In Rest Mode -> Stay Connected to the Internet.
Whether it will do those things in rest mode is controlled by Settings -> System -> Automatic Downloads and Uploads -> Saved Data and Update Files (which was still on, for me, but wouldn’t happen because of the other new setting).
