More Discounts Added To The PlayStation Store January Sale

’twas Christmas Eve when Sony decided to kick off their clearly mislabelled January Sale, starting, as it did, in December. Yet it did bring a sackful of discounts to the store for those who were about to unwrap their fancy new consoles, and those discounts did generally extend well into the first month of 2015. Of course, it’s not as if many people managed to get online to take advantage of these offers until the new year, anyway!

Still, now that we’re actually in January, Sony are adding a fresh set of offers to those that are continuing on, with everything from Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes to Hohokum, Assassin’s Creeds and Danganronpa. There’s a decent spread of offers running until January 21st, in other words, but you’ll have to click on links to actually see the GBP pricing, because all the discounts have been posted in Euros only. I’m guessing the PS Store calculator is still on holiday.

Speaking of which, this sale and the PS Plus update are all that we’re getting today, with the regular PS Store update returning next week.

  1. There goes the rest of January then. Defense Grid 2 comes down to a sensible price, so I’ll have some of that, and Tales of Xillia 2. (That Graces f and Xillia “combo pack” is a bit of a bargain too, if you like that sort of thing)

And the PS+ games were up surprisingly early this month.

I’m just glad someone gave me a bunch of Amazon vouchers for christmas. And that as far as anyone knows, there is no amount of data you can download in any one month that causes Sky to get upset.

    • I think sky limited me last week after I downloaded a good few hours of “art” vids. The 1st couple of hours were fine, but the last video took ages. It was back upto speed last night tho, so it’s all good.;)

      • That sounds unusual for Sky. They claim their unlimited broadband really is unlimited, with no hidden caps and no throttling if you try and actually use it a decent amount.

And believe me, I’ve used it enough. What with the PS+ games every month (and other things), lots of Netflix use and “educational video material”.

  2. Is Ground Zeroes worth splashing on?

    • Was just about to ask the same question? £7.19 with 10 PS+ disocunt

    • Absolutely, it is a steal for under a tenner. Great game, although to get the most out of it you would have to of played Peace Walker.

  3. two Tales games for 12 quid?

    yes please.

    • Add Xillia 2 for £16 and you’ve got 3 of them for £28 and possibly enough game to keep you going until whenever Zestiria is released. (Later this year?)

      • after buying those two, i have something like 40p left in my psn wallet, so i think i’ll stick with those two for now. ^_^

been wanting to play them for ages, but couldn’t find them for a decent, for decent read very cheap, price. ^_^

well now i can play them.

when they finish downloading anyway, who knows how long that will take over wifi.

  4. “I’m guessing the PS Store calculator is still on holiday.”

    Is it really needed though? I thought all prices were generally € = £ = $. ;)

    • The euro and dollar prices are often similar, but rarely is the pound price equal.

Besides, where do you get off using the flashy euro icon that’s completely absent from my UK keyboard :P

      • On mine, the € is achieved by pressing AltGr (the Alt to the right of the spacebar) and 4. But yeah, agree with the 1:1 Euro to Dollar rate, and the 1:whatever-we-feel-like Euro to Sterling sentiment!

      • Yeah I was kidding, but I have seen on more than a few occasions games that are the same in Euros as the Sterling price & the same for Dollars too. Doesn’t happen all the time of course, but happens more frequently than it should!

& Mugsy is correct as well – AltGr & 4 pops a lovely ‘€’ sign in. It is by no means obvious from the keyboard though (i.e. its one of those ‘if you know it’ things for a lot of keyboards)! :)

  5. Got Valiant Hearts (which is excellent) and AC Freedom Cry last week, so combined with GTA5, they should keep me busy for a while.

  6. Still waiting for Transistor to be on sale. Finally got round to playing Alien Isolation, which keeps me busy and beautifully horrified… :o)

    • Transistor was on sale a while back.

  7. The Walking Dead on PS4 for £8.99. Tempted. Does anyone know if the PS4 version actually works though? Not paying for it if it’s broken like all the other versions.

    • If it’s the first one you are talking about, I have played it on PS3 & it was absolutely fine on that, but not played the PS4 version.

Which versions is it that are broken though? I may have missed a story on it, but I know absolutely nothing about that!

    • I’ve played through both on PS4 and had no issues with the first at all,the only issues i had where the second not recognising my save file so the wouldn’t carry on with my previous choices, also in the very final chapter of the second it suddenly became very very stuttery but i stuggled through.

  8. seems Sony don’t quite get it!
    discount
    noun
    noun: discount; plural noun: discounts
    ˈdɪskaʊnt/

    1.
a deduction from the usual cost of something.
“rail commuters get a discount on season tickets”
    synonyms: reduction, deduction, markdown, price cut, cut, lower price, cut price, concession, concessionary price;
    rebate
“many rail commuters will get a discount on next year’s season tickets”
    Finance
a percentage deducted from the face value of a bill of exchange or promissory note when it changes hands before the due date.

    verb
verb: discount; 3rd person present: discounts; past tense: discounted; past participle: discounted; gerund or present participle: discounting
    dɪsˈkaʊnt/

    1.
deduct an amount from (the usual price of something).
“a product may carry a price which cannot easily be discounted”
    synonyms: deduct, take off, rebate;

Assassins creed is twice the price of most retailers?

    • I know a lot of people complain about some of the high prices, but in fairness digital copies come with multiple licences meaning they can be played on multiple systems. So that might reduce some games down to £20-30 per copy rather than the £40-60 that we might see on first glance.

Nevertheless a huge majority of customers probably just want a single licence copy, but I reckon with an increasing emphasis on the digital they should perhaps cater for that.

  9. PSN pricing (GREED) stops me buying shed loads of games. Its a shame because i want to support developers and there games i enjoy but instead Joe Blogs selling his secondhand copy will get my money 8/10 times until this is addressed by Sony. e.g. GTA V PSN £55 – Shopto/Amazon £40 – Ebay £30. Then i can sell it again, so thats another sale lost for developers and the cycle continues on and on.

  10. Anyone that hasn’t played Danganronpa as of yet should definitely pick it up!
