After months of work the PlayStation 4 exclusive racing game, DriveClub, seems to be functioning correctly, so thoughts are turning to the much trumpeted PlayStation Plus version, which was to be free to subscribers.
Bad news I’m afraid.
@DevilDog1977 We're getting there, but there's still a lot of server development needed to support the PS+ Edition.

The coming months will see the release of Project Cars, one of Driveclub’s most obvious competitors, will anyone be bothered about Driveclub when it finally makes it to PlayStation Plus?

The ship sailed on this for me months ago. I was really looking forward to this prior to the release of the PS4, and now I couldn’t care less. Shame

I wouldn’t be surprised if they leave it till late this year and just put the full game on PS+

Still going to hang in til the Plus edition arrives, and also see what the consensus is for Project Cars when that is released. It’s shocking when you think the Plus edition is nearly a year and a half late considering it was meant to be ready for launch.

Your last sentence is technically correct (in a way) but so sensationalist it deserves its own article. Nay… it’s own website! :-)

It is a tad melodramatic, but I think it emphases what a colossal fuck up Evolution have made with Driveclub…

Let’s face it, they clearly had no intention of releasing this game for free on day 1 and they clearly have no intention releasing it on Plus soon after release. They’ll put it on after its been out for a year which is totally pointless because they’ve had bigger AAA games added to PS+ after being out for only a few months.

I can understand why many people are still waiting on the plus version but i can also understand why those who couldn’t wait to play it went ahead and bought it regardless. I’m one of the latter, no regrets – in fact i’m still enjoying playing it months later.

Yup.
I broke the moment the handling of Project Cars was shown to be so dodgy.
I’m still crap at DriveClub, but it’s a great game. Amazing graphics, tough AI and solid handling make a great racer.
JR.
I was waiting for the the plus edition but I managed to pick the full game up for £20 a few weeks back. It’s brilliant and I don’t regret buying the full game one bit. In fact, now that I’ve actually played it, even if we had been given the plus version as planned, I would have bought the full game anyway. So technically I haven’t lost out. I’ve actually gained because if the game had worked at launch, I would have had to pay full price for it.
I kind of agree with double-o-dave saying the people who are still waiting probably wouldn’t have bought the game anyway. There are enough game clips / reviews online to know if it’s your kind of game or not and it’s £20 in most places now so it’s not like you’re taking a huge risk even if you don’t like it.

^ Listen to this man. He knows what he’s talking about! ;)

I was one of those who got the PS4 with the expectation of the PS+ version of DriveClub coming out. After the failed launch of the full game and subsequent delays for the PS+ it does leave you feeling let down.
For people saying “it’s only 20 quid now” and “if your still waiting for the PS+ you’d never had bought it anyway” I totally disagree. Sony made this one of their “oooo look at this selling point” aspects and to disappoint PS fans, even if it came as surprised botched launch, surely can’t leave you blaiming people for stayng away.
I am still waiting for the PS+ version and had it launched on time properly being a fan of driving games I know I’d had bought it. Now however having seen more of Project Cars I’d rather pay £45 for that (or however much it will cost) that £10-20 for DriveClub.
Sometimes you’re either a savvy buyer or you just want new stuff as soon as you can get it and if you can’t wait for something then so be it :)

I do wonder how many on the fence buyers opted for the PS4 expecting Driveclub at launch rather than xbox with Forza 5. I don’t believe it was ever intended for the PS4 launch, just a counter to Forza.

No-one surely, who would buy a console of expense based on a single game that’s an untested and new IP; surely people base their console buying decisions on past brand experience coupled with present reviews of said box of tricks?
minerwilly
Its the best game on PS4 and I’m glad that it’s not been released to the PS+ rabble !
