Vita Exclusive Danganronpa Sells 200,000 In The West

Danganronpa has sold over 200,000 copies in the West according to NIS America CEO, Takuro Yamashita. Those are pretty impressive numbers, especially when you consider the niche appeal of the visual novel genre and the games’ exclusivity to PlayStation Vita.

Talking to MCV, Yamashita confirmed that Trigger Happy Havoc and Goodbye Despair have collectively sold over 200,000 copies in both the US and Europe. This is despite the two titles launching within the same year.

Up until recently the visual novel genre has enjoyed a small albeit hardcore following. Yamashita believes that the success of Danganronpa is proof of this niche gradually expanding in the West. He also commented that the series has helped to diversify NISA’s output which has traditionally been mostly JRPGs such as Disgaea.

A series spin-off, titled Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls, is due to launch later this year on PlayStation Vita.

  1. I’ve only played the first one, been meaning to buy the second one as it is a really good game. I always feel sorry for the vita and so avoid buying pre-owned copies so I can give the publishers some support.

  2. It’s a pair of brilliant games. Well deserved!
