(Updated) The 1TB PlayStation 4 Lands In Shops Next Month, New Hardware Revision On The Way

Update: Apparently the 1TB model is not going to be releasing in North America any time soon for some bizarre reason. A Sony representative got in touch with GameInformer to confirm the lack of a 1TB PS4 model for those that inhabit that land.

“We have no plans to announce at this time.”

That’s all they got. First Quantic Dream announcing that Europe will get the PS4 versions of Beyond: Two Souls & Heavy Rain first, now this.

Original Story:

Sony have announced that the PlayStation 4 will begin shipping with a 1TB hard drive from 15th July in select Europe and PAL territories.

Annoyingly Sony have not revealed the price of the “Ultimate Player Edition”, nor mentioned any reduction in price for the current 500gb model. They suggest we “check with your local retailer” for pricing, but a quick mooch on Amazon and GAME has not revealed any 1TB models.

The new model was leaked a couple of week’s ago, along with the hardware revision for both the 1TB model and future 500GB models.

The weight of the new PS4 system has been reduced by 10% and the power consumption by 8%, compared to the current PS4 model. In addition, the surface of the new PS4 system’s HDD bay cover will come in a matte finish, giving the system a more casual look.

  1. It’s easy and probably cheaper to just but the 2tb harddrive from Argos take it out the casing and install into the ps4.

    • Be careful with external hdds, they are usually cheaper because the hard drive is of a lower quality. I learned the hard way with my PS3.

  2. £299 rrp 500GB, £329/349 1TB. A Guesstimate.

  3. You can bet it’ll still be cheaper and better in the long term to buy a 500gb model plus 2TB HDD.

    • That’s what I’ve done, got the ps4 Saturday, the drives due tomorrow. Amazon honoured that deal ;)

  4. Curious to see the matte faceplate. Mine even though I’ve been careful is full of micro scratches…

  5. I like that the faceplate has changed, it makes me feel like having an older model with the gloss panel is a little bit special. My wife says I’m a little bit special too.

  6. Definately a move in the right right direction storage wise but why does the DS4 still have those arsehole thumbsticks that are begging a redesign….get on it Sony!

    • I’ve never had an issue with the thumb sticks, out of curiosity what’s the issue?

      • Pretty simple really, it’s the concave shape of the DS4 thumbsticks top rubber mount as a pose to concave; the latter giving much more precise control as was proven with DS1,DS2 and DS3…..don’t fix, it ain’t broken!
This is obviously my own personal failing, but I just don’t get on with that dip in the default thumbstick top so immediately affixed those third party rubber add-ons to all of the DS4’s that I own.

      • Cough* as a pose to convex

    • I prefer concave my self. My thumbs get far too sweaty for convex sticks ;)

  7. Has anybody installed a 1TB Hybrid HDD in a PS4? Does it make much difference?
