Dead Rising: Watchtower Now Available In The UK

Dead Rising: Watchtower, the movie based on Capcom’s smash-hit survival horror game series, is now available to rent and buy in the UK.

If news of such a film existing has all come as a bit of a surprise, that’ll be because the film skipped a theatrical release, instead making it’s debut back in March when it lurched onto the now US-only streaming service Crackle.

Should that trailer have piqued your interest you’ll be pleased to hear that the feature length flick is available on DVD and Blu-ray from the likes of Amazon, as well as via iTunes, Google Play and other Video-On-Demand services.

The official plot summary is below and may contain spoilers – and/or brains – you have been warned.

Present day. East Mission, Oregon is locked down after police find the bodies of what appear to be victims of a zombie attack. Zombies are not a new phenomenon, but outbreaks are uncommon. Past incidents were only just contained in time and the country is nervous.

When two ambitious Net 2.0 reporters, Chase and Jordan, get inside the quarantine zone to report on a large group of civilians trapped in an inner city dome stadium, they realise they’re waiting for a rescue that isn’t coming. Many of those abandoned inside are survivors of past outbreaks who carry the zombie virus in their blood. They only survive by taking the antidote once every 24 hours — a drug called Zombrex. When the local drug supply mysteriously fails, a small crisis explodes into mass panic and catastrophe.

The story unfolds from two perspectives: survivors inside the city and officials and the media on the outside. Unlike virtually all other zombie narratives, the world hasn’t ended. The outbreak is merely a large-scale natural disaster that the rest of the world watches on TV.

After Jordan manages to escape the quarantine zone, she sets out to unravel the conspiracy behind the failed Zombrex, while Chase is trapped inside with a few others, battling to survive. Their perilous, action-packed journey to escape simultaneously forces them to question what they’re willing to do to survive and, ultimately, their own sense of humanity.

  1. Saw this earlier for sale in HMV. Was quite surprised as I knew nothing of it.

It actually doesn’t look as bad as I suspected it may be from the trailer – Disappointed to see no mention of Chuck nor Frank, but is suppose they wanted to go with a fresh angle on things to avoid the obvious comparisons between the character/actors. Perhaps they’ll appear as a cameo though, who knows?

I may well give this a go.

    • I got mine imported and it does have Frank and Chuck.

      • Oh, that’s interesting – I decided to do a bit of digging & found out that Rob Riggle is actually playing Frank West. That makes sense to a point.

However, the only mention given to Chuck is that some zombie is wearing a jacket similar to his – Is there something else that I missed or people are keeping quiet about (for some reason)?
