If you were planning a raid this evening then your luck is out I’m afraid, the Destiny servers are undergoing maintenance as of, well, now.
Starting at 8:00 AM Pacific (4:00 PM UTC), players will not be able to log into Destiny in preparation for maintenance.At 9:00 AM Pacific (5:00 PM UTC), players will be removed from activities as Destiny servers will be taken offline for maintenance.Maintenance is expected to conclude before 2:00 PM Pacific (10:00 PM UTC).
The note from Bungie was only posted today so it’s rather late notice, the servers should be back online by 10pm tonight (GMT).

I got an in game notification of this when I logged on at 1am yesterday and people have been discussing it on Reddit all day. :)

To be fair, there was more notice than just today – Met up with Pixel & Toutski for a bit of nightfalling yesterday (even though its seeming less & less worth it in terms of rewards, its still a decent time) & we were all notified upon logging in that it would be down today/tonight.
The notification might have been up for a while longer than that, as I only tend to get on one day a week or so now. Before yesterday the last time I was on was the previous Wednesday.
