What We Played #261: Pokémon, Battlefield 1 & Xbox One

There’s a Pokémon game that’s got my Twitter feed all in a tizzy this week, as Pokémon Go has been released into the wild. Admittedly, it’s mainly because those on iOS in the UK can’t play it yet and people are complaining.

But I’ve not been playing Pokémon Go, I’ve been playing Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, after I finally caved and decided to grab one of the more recent games on 3DS ahead of Sun and Moon’s release later this year. I’m really quite enjoying it, even if I feel it’s been far too easy so far. I just can’t quite bring myself to turn Exp. Share off and level up my team the old fashioned way.

Beyond that, I also sank some decent time into Fire Emblem: Awakening, which has devolved into me pairing people up during battles so that they fall in love and have children. That’s much less likely to happen in Battlefield 1 though, where I’ve had access to the closed alpha. Now that the NDA’s lifted, I can tell you that it’s good and very pretty on PS4, which you’ll be able to see in a video that’s currently uploading.

Dave’s mostly been playing JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes on Heaven for review, which you’ll be able to read some time next week, which follows on from having delved into the somewhat disappointing Street Fighter V story mode. Meanwhile, there’s been a spot of Hearthstone on his commute, and he was very positive when he reviewed Inside over the weekend.

Less positive was Jim’s review of Carmageddon: Max Damage, which went up this morning, and though there’s fun to be had the series just hasn’t taken a step into the modern day. He was also disappointed in how the free content is panning out for Uncharted 4’s multiplayer, but had a much better time with Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII, before turning to this week’s mobile game, Kingdom Hearts Unchained X.

Aran also had a middling week for reviews, as he played Full Mojo Rampage and found its execution lacking. Alongside that, he’s been testing himself against Furi’s bullet hell boss battles – it’s on this month’s PS+ roster -and Super Time Force Ultra, both of which have proven themselves to be quite tricky.

Jake’s been savouring all things Xbox One, having picked one up on the cheap over the weekend. There’s been Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Rise of the Tomb Raider and a bit of Sunset Overdrive, but he’s not played it as much as he’d like, and now he’s contemplating having to return it after stumbling into some rather frustrating issues with the WiFi chip!

Finally, a wild Adam appeared to chip in. He’s played and finished off Zombi U, which he enjoyed if finding it a little by the numbers, and has had a smashing time playing through Lego Dimensions, which has him hyped for the second wave of characters and levels.

Bringing it all full circle, being on Android has let him play Pokémon Go, but it quickly drained his phone’s battery and used up a lot of data in the process. His verdict? “Charizard wasn’t worth it. Disappointing.”

I'm probably wearing toe shoes, and there's nothing you can do to stop me!

  1. Only played Guacamelee and got the Platinum 2 days ago. Also uploaded the vids on YouTube and have posted them in the forums :)
Haven’t started Gat out of Hell yet so hopefully tonight if not too tired from work.

  2. Finished XCOM at the weekend and mostly been playing Halo 5’s Warzone Firefight mode. Started The Wolf Among Us which had quite a good intro chapter.

Going to get stuck into Red Dead Redemption over the weekend, with some F1 2016.

  3. Pokémon Go isn’t for me, that sort of thing just doesn’t tickle my fancy.
I finished the battlefield Hardline campaign this week and thoroughly enjoyed it, I thought the ending was very good.
Other than that I played some iron banner on destiny, got all 3 characters to rank 5 and received some truly underwhelming rewards as usual.

  4. Mostly Rocket League – still trying to get a blasted Painted item, grhh!!

Playing lots of Garden Warfare 2, too.

That’s all I’ll be playing really until I have 100% trophies for both.

  5. I dipped into the free to play Piratey thing and FURI, and decided that neither were my bag. Played about 40 mins of Gat out of Hell and i think i’ve seen enough of that.
Fortunately i’ve been enjoying Alienation and have added a few legendary weapons to my arsenal. (and i figured out how to access heavy weapons – halfway through the game lol)

Not much gaming for me this weekend as i’m off to relive some of my misspent youth at a Stone Roses gig! :)

  6. The usual Dead Island with Forrest and Pixel and GTA online with Forrest, Pixel and heedbaw.
Still mainly playing Binding of Isaac Afterbirth … even though I really should be playing the pile of games in my backlog.
I’ve also been watching a fair amount of SGDQ on twitch.

  7. Still taking it really slowly during my first playthrough of Uncharted 4. Wow…! I’m taking lots of pictures, enjoying the new stealthy bits a lot, the story is good, and I start to dread the approaching end, which I still know nothing about…
Apart from that I played some more of the first Dragon Age, which we got with Plus.

    • Me too to all of those points! I’m only at the church with the bell, so far it’s been gorgeous looking and brilliant fun. I’m really enjoying the story, I hope the ending is an emotional roller coaster. To be fair whether it is or isn’t I’ll probably have too many beers and good old cry when the credits roll, like a proper man.

      • I really liked the church tower..! :o)
And I envy you for having quite a bit more still to play..! ;o)

Before I started playing, I was convinced this to be the first Uncharted I’ll not get the platinum for. Now, I might just have to play it again, when it’s over… ;o)

  8. Bits and pieces this week. A few rounds of CS:GO here and there, a quick play through of Limbo to mop up some achievements and some rounds of Fifa while watching the Euros.

Gotta love that summer lull… ;)

  9. Dead Island with Forrest and R1MJAW and lots of Bloodborn.

  10. My time with XCOM is at an end. My time as The Arisen begins! Playing Dragon’s Dogma:Dark Arisen. Not Arsen as i was about to type. Tis a very underrated, overlooked RPG. Best combat in an RPG i’ve seen. Granted, Dark Souls kinda shares that achievement in my collectin. Playing as a Strider. Climbing stuff, killing stuff will never get old.
