What We Played #262: Pokémon Go, The Order: 1886 & Kitten Squad

So, let’s be honest, there was a lot of Pokémon Go played by the TSA gang this week, most of whom were quick to download and start dabbling with the mobile gaming phenomenon as soon as it became available in the UK. Everyone, that is, except Tuffcub, who hates Pokémon.

Instead he played Destiny, Deadpool and a game called Kitten Squad.

It’s a free to play game on the PS Store and it’s essentially a Binding of Isaac clone. There are plenty of weapons to pick up and the graphics are super cute with loads of friendly animals and lovely hats for the kittens to dress up in, as it has co-op. It’s all rather lovely, and perfect for smaller children who can handle a simple twin stick shooter. It’s clearly, clearly aimed at small children, which is why I find it so horrific.

You see, the game is by PETA, so without any warning, your next mission may start with a cut scene which goes in to very graphic detail about sheep being stabbed, or puppy’s tails being cut off. Obviously this sort of thing is horrible and shocking but hiding these graphic and gruesome descriptions in a game clearly aimed at seven year olds is beyond belief. ESRB have given the game a teen rating, but it looks like something from CBeebies.

Horrible, horrible, trickery from PETA!

But everyone else played Pokémon Go. In addition to trying to go back and polish off the Riddler Challenges in Batman: Arkham Knight, Kris dabbled with it, finding it very weird and lacking purpose..

Aran also played it while completing Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, which he dubbed “fantastic” and playing Kerbal Space Program, which you can expect a review of some time soon. He’s currently a level 6 trainer – at the time of writing – but his decent strength Pokémon are nowhere near able to take on any gyms.

Dave, when not Go-ing, played The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD, and an iOS game called Steppy Pants. He says it “has a similar vibe to the likes of Crossy Road in its monetisation strategy, but it’s literally a game about walking on a pavement without stepping in the cracks.”

Jake was surprised how much he liked Rise of the Tomb Raider on Xbox One, even though he clearly thinks Uncharted 4 is the better game, and played this alongside Halo 5 and Halo: The Master Chief Collection. His Xbox journeys also took him to an all too familiar place, as he started his 7th character in Destiny. He at least knows he has a problem.

The amount of Driving that Dom has to do is perfect for catching critters in Pokémon Go, so he’s making plenty of headway in his Pokédex. Aside from that, though, he’s been playing The Order: 1886 and loving its graphics and story, without dwelling too much on its flaws.

He also played and reviewed the very ordinary and unexciting Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness, as well as Monster Hunter Generations on Nintendo 3DS, which has him considering getting a hand grip of sorts to ease the cramp from long playing sessions.

Last, but not least, my Pokémon Go adventures have been relatively brief, but I’ve enjoyed it for what it is. Aside from that, there’s been plenty of Battlefield 1, some of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s new DLC, a curious little strategy game called Crush Your Enemies, and I made a of headway playing an actual Pokémon game, with Alpha Sapphire on the 3DS.

I'm probably wearing toe shoes, and there's nothing you can do to stop me!

  1. Playing Dragon’s Dogma:DA. Restarted after hitting a wall where it just became boring due to a lack of challenge because i accidentally got my daggers dragonforged and that resulted in well, me rarely having trouble killing stuff. Watched LOTR as well. Tis about it.

  2. Been a busy week so not much at the moment. The usual TGMEM and some Halo 5.

Hoping to start Need for Speed and Unravel over the weekend, and I’m eyeing up MGS 5.

  3. That PETA game has some brutal mission intros alright! :)

I completed my replay of Uncharted 2 and started replaying Uncharted 3. I also completed the world missions in Alienation on solo but the Mothership at the end is proving to be a bit of a bitch. God help me when i replay it on a higher level. :O

And having watched a few live streams i decided that 7 Days to Die was for me so i’ve started playing that now too. So far the only issue i’ve noticed is the momentary freeze every few minutes but i haven’t gotten far in the game yet. I did die almost immediately on my first attempt when i inadvertently backed into a cactus. :)

    • Oh and i forgot to mention, Stone Roses live were excellent!

  4. Not been playing much the last few weeks but I have been slowly working my way through the Battlefield Hardline SP episodes. On the last one now.

I quite like the format, it’s worked pretty well for me and my occasional sessions but not something I’d want to see repeated too often. Surprisingly good game tho!

  5. I’ve dipped my toe into Battlefield 4 multi-player this week. Considering that I don’t enjoy competitive multi-player much due to being gash at it, I’m really enjoying this tho.

  6. Saints Row Gat out of Hell for me thanks to PlayStation Plus.
Just slightly bored getting the Platinum due to a lengthy grind of weapon related kills and powers aswell all Orbs and misc collectibles is 100%
Just the kills and 3hrs of Co op and I am looking for a partner on this Co op for the trophy which probably will be my last trophy to obtain.

    • Give me a shout for the Gat co-op trophy Del, I’ll just leave the game running by itself in the background whilst I sleep more than likely. Night shifts take their toll!

    • Job done! ;) Worked a treat mate, I buggered off to work and you celebrated the weekend whilst the game just gifted us that co-op trophy on idle play. Sweet ;)

  7. I got the platinum out of Lego Star Wars The Force Awakens during the week. I had a day today where I couldn’t decide what to play. So I played about 10 games to long a list for me to state (or I can’t remember) but mainly played Everybody’s Gone To Rapture.

    • Is Everybody’s Gone to the Rupture any good? Is currently on sale and it’s been on my wish list for a while, as is The Vanishing of…, and I’m not sure whether they’re both just walking simulators.

      • I think it’s quite good. Even though that could be just subjective to me.
It is quite like walking around Shropshire, which is fairly close to me, just without the pain the legs. I only bought it because of the sale and it’s easy trophies lol.
I’m quite expecting it to be on Ps+ next month now that I’ve bought it.

    • Ok, thanks, downloaded it last night, sounds interesting enough. Hope it’ll not be on Plus any time soon, but that happens to all of us… ;o)

      • No problem buddy. I hope you enjoy it. I do always seem to buy games and very soon after it gets on Ps+ quite regular. Maybe we all should stop buying the games in sales but it’s hard not to at the prices they put them on in the sales.

  8. Finished off Uncharted 4 finally. Disliked the gameplay immensely but pulled through on the strength of the wonderful story. I should mention that it wasn’t all bad on the playing front, I had a blast during the driving sections.

Played Pokemon Go last weekend. Was mildly charming for a couple of hours until I ventured outside and was immediately reminded of the +100 farenheit heat index, haven’t touched it since. Mostly it just made me want to play a traditional Pokemon game.

Spent a little bit of last Sunday afternoon attempting to get back into Fallout 4 but haven’t touched it since so it’s not going all that well. If I’m ever to even complete the story it’s because I forced myself to. One of the biggest disappointments in recent memory.

Little bits of FIFA here and there are always enjoyable. It’s remarkable how organic it feels, with the mountain of hours I’ve put into it, it’s fun to see a new animation or pick up something new in the controls. Not big into FUT but career mode and friendlies eat up a fair chunk of spare time.

  9. I absolutely loved The Order: 1886. Great start to what I hope develops into a series. Story, graphics, gameplay, all great and the best handling of Lycans I’ve seen in a game :-)

  10. Finally managed to get myself a PS4 this week. Bought the bundle with Lego Star Wars The Force Awakens, which is fun so far. Seems like one of the better Lego games i’ve played.

Unfortunately i havent played it as much as i would have liked as my kids brought a nasty cold into the house. Currently not sure if i will make it through the night.

    • Also played a bit of Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE. Enjoying it so far, but im wondering if the battle system can stay fun for the duration. Which isn’t usually a problem with the SMT or Fire Emblem games. Curious.

    • Welcome to planet PS4..! Hope you made it through the night… ;o)

      • Just barely. Thank you, it seems like a very plasticky/bricky place so far but Doom is making eyes at me so that will undoubtedly change.
