The Banner Saga 3 is happening thanks to Stoic’s Kickstarter campaign for the final part of the trilogy reaching its $200,000 target in less than a week. The campaign is currently sitting at $212,000 with 35 days still to go. Stoic actually spoke about trying to fund Banner Saga 3 in different ways a couple of weeks ago, and ruled out having a publisher foot the bill due to the complications that would bring.
On the campaign page Stoic has written about going through Kickstarter again.
Now we’re back, in a similar position as before, hoping you’ll support Banner Saga 3 to make this game just as special. We’re still solidly indie, not accepting any investor funding so Kickstarter is still a great way to rally the community to show support for the game, while letting us call the shots on the games we make. We’re paying for most of the game ourselves, but the funds we’re asking for will enable us to take the time we need and bring the band back together one more time!
Of course while work is underway for The Banner Saga 3 it will take quite a bit of time, so we don’t know when to expect its release.

What a happy story this was from the beginning ! They promised us a good TBS game and they delivered, but the world-building they did was spot on. I also think they got really lucky with the soundtrack that was top-notch.
