Nyko Reveal A Portable Nintendo Switch Dock That’s Half The Price Of Nintendo’s

If there’s one real problem with the Nintendo Switch’s vision of taking console gaming with you wherever you go, it’s that if you want to plug it into a TV or monitor for a longer gaming session, you’ll always need a dock in order to do so. The only dock you can currently get is Nintendo’s own, and when it’s released separately at the end of this week as a dock, USB-C charger and HDMI cable combo, they’ll be charging an eye-watering $90/€90/£80. Not only that, but it’s not exactly that sturdy or portable.

Thankfully that’s about to change with Nyko unveiling the first third party dock for the system that isn’t just a whole lot cheaper – they’re pricing it at $45 in the US for their dock, USB-C charger and HDMI cable – but it will also be a whole lot more portable with a smaller and compact form factor that just uses a single piece of plastic to prop the console upright.

It does come with one minor drawback, however. The dock doesn’t feature any USB ports, meaning that you can’t charge other controllers or use USB accessories like the ethernet adapter, but that’s more than alright in my opinion when you consider the much better value for money and portability.

Nyko’s Portable Docking Kit for Nintendo Switch will be available in September in the US. I guess we’d best cross our fingers they or another third party can cater to the rest of the world as well.

  1. A really handy addition. Makes sense to use this for strictly going away, then keep the official dock at home.
