It all makes sense now. Remember the mild reaction to the realistically proportioned people that inhabit New Donk City in Super Mario Odyssey? It’s clear that Nintendo were playing the long game so that they could simply get real people in to perform in this live action musical trailer:

Pretty much everyone aside from Mario is a real person here as they dance through the streets like it’s a better dressed Fame, while a CGI Mario runs around town dad dancing and possessing people, dogs and bollards.
It’s a catchy jazz number, and you can download a short version from the Mario Odyssey site if you want to put it on an endless 2 minute loop between now and the game’s release on 27th October.

Very nice! Charmingly fun, I hope that tune is part of the game, it’s super catchy, cheesy, Japanesey and La La Landy.
