Defiance 2050 Closed Beta Set For This April, But Not For EU PlayStation Owners

I was rather looking forward to jumping back in to Defiance once again, it was a nifty shooter on PS3, but due to unspecified reasons the forthcoming beta on PlayStation 4 will be for North America only.  The Xbox One and PC tests, which will occur during the same period of April 20th-22nd, appear to be worldwide.

Here’s what you can expect in the test:

In the beta, players will be able to play through the Defiance 2050 experience up to level 25, as well as explore the areas of Mount Tam and Madera. The closed beta will offer up exciting story-based missions as well as give players a taste of the large-scale epic battles that they can expect when Defiance 2050 launches later this summer.

You can sign up for the beta here.

  1. Sounds like the classic crap divide between SCEA and SCEE.

  2. I realise I could google the answer but meh. This was the game that had a tie over with a TV series? That show was pretty naff if I remember correctly.

    • Yes, the game was vaguely tied to the TV series. Conveniently set in a different location so you weren’t constantly bumping into characters from the show, which would presumably have been expensive to get the actors to do voices for the game as well.

Both were actually quite good. The game struggled a bit on the PS3 though. And the TV series struggled a bit with obviously not having enough money to do what it was trying to at times.

But there was an interesting world they’d created with however many different alien races it was and the whole history they’d set up. Plus some entertaining characters. (Datak and Stahma Tarr were great fun)

And the game had a few neat features. The sudden random massive battles where everyone rushed to the same spot were fun. Bits of the game loading in so slowly you crashed your car into something that hadn’t appeared yet wasn’t so fun.

And of course, music by Bear McCreary always helps. I’m guessing he’s not involved in the new game though. Probably. He’s doing too many TV shows and films. And God of War.
