One of the first digital only games on PlayStation 3 is about to fire it’s last rocket as the servers for the classic Warhawk are to be turned off on October 25th. I can’t count the number of hours I sank in to that game, hundreds it not thousands, and TSA used to run meet ups for the game which were lots of fun.
Sony have also announced that servers for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale on both PS3 and PS Vita, and Twisted Metal on PS3, will also be closed on the same day. The notices are for the North American servers but we assume this will be a world wide shut down.

Sad face ?
Warhawk HD would make my year.
DeadlyChipmunk
How does this work for hosting your own dedicated server? There is a trophy for hosting a dedicated server for 4 hours, would this not work still?
Tuffcub
It wont work. At all. Warhawk is online only so once the server shuts the only way to play would be to hook up two PS3 via a Lan cable and play 2V2.

Sad times but it’s had a very long run. Would also like to see a reboot on the more powerful consoles.
P.s my copy came on a disk!
Tuffcub
Yeah itw as released on disc at a later date, but was (i seem to recall) the first “big” game to be released digitally only to start with. It was the start of Sony pushing their online store.
jeanhenry
Was available on disc at launch and came with a headset to get you chatting. Think maybe getting confused with it being one of the first online only games.

If only they remade it rather than change so much with Starhawk, I think of rocket league which just turned up an already great game.. it would have been huge I reckon
Forrest_01
But didn’t Rocket League come from Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars (SARPBC)?
I guess the main difference there though was the fact that changes were minimal, as they knew what they had was good?
ron_mcphatty
Brilliant game and it’s had a hell of run lasting this long, 11 years right? I’m pretty sure I got my first trophy in it too, playing in SD on my 14” telly!

I loved this game, it was one of my first PS3 games. I bought it physically with the first PS headset, and I was there for some of the TSA meetups. I still think of it as one of the PS3’s most underrated titles.
