GamesTM And GamesMaster Magazines To Cease Publication

Future Publishing have announced they are to shut down two of the last few gaming magazines that can be found on the shelves of newsagents in the UK.

“Despite the company’s strong performance overall, unfortunately Gamesâ„¢ and GamesMaster are no longer profitable parts of the business, which means that their next issues, on sale November 1st, will be the final editions,” Future said in a statement.

“The decision was an extremely difficult one, but everyone here is enormously proud of what the magazines have achieved in their lifetimes – an incredible 25 years in GamesMaster’s case – and we are currently redeploying affected staff within the company.”

GamesMaster originally started as a spin-off from the popular TV show starring Dominic Diamond and Patrick Moore.  The TV show was utter bobbins but brilliant as they had a special guest each week who clearly had no idea about video games. These included pop starlet Gabrielle, pill popping dance fiends The Shamen, spoon bender Uri Geller, and weatherman Michael Fish.

Ah, happy times.

  1. Most people will be getting the info they want online now so I suppose they have run their course.
I haven’t picked up a games magazine for years but even then I only bought the odd one known again.
At least there’s no job losses.

  2. Oh man :( Like most other people with a working internet connection I haven’t picked up a games mag in a lot of years but it always sucks to see parts of your childhood die off. Fondly remember my parents buying me a copy of GamesTM whenever we went on long car journeys.

  3. Sad to hear, but then I was more of a fan of C+VG.
(plus we don’t need anything other than tsa ;-))
