As Nintendo prepare to bring their massively popular Mario Kart series to mobile, they’ve announced that they’ll be holding a closed beta for Mario Kart Tour in May. There’s just a few caveats to this: it will be Android-only, it’s only for players in North America and Japan, and you’ll need an invite to get access.
Registrations are open until 7th May, so you simply need to head to the Mario Kart Tour site and scan the QR code. Though region restricted, the openness of Android means you might be able to fib about your location just a little bit. For those selected, the closed beta will run for two weeks from 22nd May until 4th June
Nintendo note on the site that “The closed beta test is a test of an application under development and is held for customers in order to improve the quality of the game. Furthermore, the number of customers who may participate in this test is limited. If the number of applications exceeds the number of possible participants, we will randomly select the participants.
All of this is still a bit of a mystery to expectant fans, as Nintendo have still shown absolutely nothing of the game. It was originally planned for release in March, but was delayed until this summer. The closed beta certainly indicates that Nintendo are on track for the new release window, and given the timing of the beta, we might hear during their E3 Nintendo Direct when the final release will be.
