Last night Atlus revealed that Persona 5 Royal would be heading westwards and would be released in the region Spring 2020. The game releases October 31st in Japan. Persona 5 Royal is an expanded version of the much-loved Persona 5, adding an additional character to the Phantom Thieves as well as new scenarios and locations for Joker and the rest of the gang to explore, fight through, and uncover secrets about. The new character is called Kasumi Yoshizawa and she doesn’t actually agree with a lot of the Phantom Thieves’ positions but joins them for her own reasons. The character enrols at the same time as Joker at Shujin but while Joker arrived with a bit of a bad reputation Kasumi joins as a celebrated gymnast. How she finds herself a part of the Phantom Thieves or why she joins is unknown at the moment.
New locations will include new dungeons which will no doubt relate to the new Phantom Thief. There’s also a new shopping district being added giving even more options to find particular goods for each of the characters. In addition, new attack animations and scenes are being added, with one of them shown off in the trailer above.
Persona 5 originally released back in 2017 and became a critical success. When Dave reviewed it he wrote:
“Persona 5 stole my heart. It was impossible to believe that the best game of the already venerated series was still to come, and yet somehow everything works wonderfully. I’d rather the dialogue didn’t pad things out as much as it did, but I was captivated from beginning to end, while it successfully brought back mechanics long thought out-dated, and introduced smart changes for the better. An essential RPG for 2017 that you should not miss out on.”
