Out of nowhere, Nintendo have announced and released a new Nintendo Switch game! The Stretchers is a wobbly rescue game, in which two medics race to rescue civilians coming down with a nasty case of the Dizzies. The game is out now for Nintendo Switch via the Nintendo eShop.
People up and down the country are getting jelly legs and shaky heads as they come down with the Dizzies, and its up to you to resuce them, racing to the scene in an ambulance as fast as you can, smashing through walls, sailing through the sky, and blazing past all manner of perils. Once you get there, it’s time to hop out, race to the wobbly patient, scoop them up on a stretcher (or just grab their limbs) and race back to the ambulance.
It’s all designed with co-op in mind, leaning on the Nintendo Switch’s native co-op multiplayer through simply handing a Joy-Con to a friend, but you can also play in solo mode and try to control both medics at the same time.
There’s also several side missions that involve sawing down trees, building ramps, blowing up rocks, and the odd game of hide and seek.
It’s a curious old game to pop up out of nowhere, with Nintendo very rarely publishing third party studios. Of the top of my head, the only other example I can think of is Snipperclips, a charming little co-op launch title for the Switch.
Tarsier Studios were founded back in 2004, making a name for themselves with their work alongside MediaMolecule, Double Eleven and Sumo Digital on the LittleBigPlanet series and creating quirky fighting game Rag Doll Kung Fu. More recently, they drew plenty of praise for unsettling side-scrolling horror game Little Nightmares and are hard at work on Little Nightmares II, due out in 2020.
