Outriders is one of the biggest multi-platform games to release in 2021. Set in a post-apocalyptic universe, this Square Enix title has been likened to Destiny, The Division, and other live service games.
Outriders combines fast paced third person shooting with rewarding player progression. As you level up your chosen class, you’ll gain new powers and earn rare loot.
The game is currently available on new and last generation consoles including PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and Xbox One. You can also buy Outriders on PC and Google Stadia. Online cross-play is enabled on all versions apart from Stadia.
Is Outriders free to play?
Right now, there is no way to play Outriders for free. The game launched on April 1st 2021 and publisher Square Enix have announced no plans to drop the premium price tag.
Ahead of the Outriders release its developer, People Can Fly, stressed that it is not a live service game. Despite its focus on loot, replayable endgame content, and online multiplayer, Outriders can be enjoyed solo. There is no roadmap for the game, nor any mention of free expansions.
While you can’t access the full game without paying, there is a free demo available on all platforms. If you’re looking to try Outriders then there’s plenty of free content here to keep you going:

Will Outriders go free to play soon? It seems very unlikely given that the game only launched just months ago. People Can Fly are still making fixes and updates to the base game with new content hopefully on the way.
Publisher Square Enix aren’t known for running free to play games for console and PC. Marvel’s Avengers launched in September 2020 and despite being a live service game, there has been no changes to its pricing model. If looking to draw in new players, we could see Square potentially expand the Outriders demo into more of a capped free trial.
