Microsoft has announced the date for their not-E3-because-it’s-cancelled-but-it’s-still-kind-of-E3 Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase. The show will take place on 12th June at 10AM PT – 6PM UK time.
The showcase will naturally feature whatever first party Xbox games that are coming out of Xbox Game Studios and titles from Bethesda – technically they’re still two separate publishing arms, owned by Microsoft’s Xbox division – but they will also be inviting partners from across the games industry to announce and showcase their own titles.
They promise a diverse lineup of games that will be coming to the Xbox ecosystem across both consoles and PC, and you can be sure that a whole host of them will be coming to Game Pass on both Xbox and PC as well.
The biggest ticket going into this event will surely be Bethesda’s upcoming sci-fi RPG, Starfield. Due out on 11th November, it’s high time for Bethesda to really blow the lid off an reveal all about this highly anticipated game. All we’ve had so far has been an array of teasers and dev diaries.
We can expect and hope to get updates on a bunch of other already announced Bethesda games as well. From the rest of Bethedsa’s developers, I’m sure they’ll drop a trailer and announce the Xbox release of Deathloop after its timed PS5 exclusivity, while Arkane’s vampire-battling Redfall could also get a second appearance as it’s expected in summer 2022, and it feels like high time for MachineGames to reveal a little more of what they’re working on – there’s an Indiana Jones game in early development, but Wolfenstein III feels more likely.
From Xbox’s studios, there’s a glut of games that were announced in the run up to the Xbox Series X|S launch that haven’t been head from since. There’s Forza Motorsport, State of Decay 3, Avowed from Obsidian, Everwild from Rare, Perfect Dark, and more. The game we saw most recently, and with actual gameplay, was Hellblade 2: Senua’s Sacrifice from Ninja Theory. Could that be scheduled for later this year?
And with the Activision Blizzard acquisition still in the works, there could be some big announcements related to that. We’ll just have to wait and see.
With E3 cancelled, any companies deciding to host a summer showcase will either be going it alone, or trying in with the Sumer Geoff Keighley Fest. Microsoft and Bethesda have already gone, but Nintendo is sure to have a not-quite-E3 Direct, Ubisoft, Sony and the ever-outlandish Devolver Digital could also tie in. EA will not be holding an EA Play Live event, though.
