After a number of months where I’ve run around fighting an array of workplace fires I’ve now found myself completely free of even a cinder. That means I can play an array of games instead, and while my backlog now has Elden Ring and Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin in it, I’ve very cleverly decided to play Assassin’s Creed III Remastered. Then I’ll probably play Black Flag to continue my stupidity. It is the best AC game mind you. I have finished the story in Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga but there’s all those damn studs and collectibles to find now.

Nic B has been locked up at home, so he’s been playing a lot of Horizon: Forbidden West. He says, “I’ve completed it and am now umming and ahing about platinum-ing it. I’ve also been digging in with Magic Arena’s latest set, New Cappena, which is fantastic. 1920’s glitz, glam and gangs. What’s not to like?”
Gareth has been playing more Divinity Original Sin 2, battling his way through the back half of the game. He’s also played some Minecraft, saying “it’s had a whole caves update since I last played and now now everytime I try to start a mine I find the biggest, most lava-filled cave this side of the nether.”
Aran’s reached Malketh in Elden Ring, but he’s stuck in the second phase of the fight. Not so stuck is Miguel, who’s started Deathloop and has found himself addicted after the opening hour. Alongside that he’s had some Apex Legends and Bloodhunt on the go.

Nick P’s been hitting Dead by Daylight pretty hard. He says, “I found a new group of survivors to play with and it’s been a lot of fun. I also started Horizon Forbidden West which I’m really enjoying, and finally, I’m playing through Paradise Killer which is interesting so far.”
Other than the usual Lego games with his son, Ade’s not done much gaming this week. Done a lot of reading though. He’s been reading for review ‘The Children of Ash and Elm A History of the Vikings’ by Neil Price for the Imagining History blog. He says, “It’s very very good if Viking history is your thing. I’m also on with The Darkest Sin by D.V. Bishop, it’s a terrific murder mystery set in a nunnery in 16th century Florence. Finally I’m reading The Antidote by Oliver Burkeman, I was so impressed by his time management book Four Thousand Weeks that I just had to read more of his work!”

Switching gears yet again to ‘What We’re Interested In’ – AKA WWII – this week Tef has been quite interested by bees. He says, “They’re pretty neat.” And he’d be right. Getting back to the original intent of this weekly feature, though, he’s gone hands on with F1 22 for the first time, checking out the new Miami circuit ahead of this weekend’s grand prix. He also reviewed Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters and found a really fun take on the XCOM-style turn-based strategy.
What about you? Are you interested in bees?

I haven’t had any time for gaming the last few weeks what with wedding prep et al but now it’s all done I’ve got time to kill… which I’ve been doing (badly) in Bioshock remastered. I think I’m close to the end, certainly feels like the game is building to a conclusion.

Well, I’ve still not finished Elden Ring, so there was that. And then some more of that. Still loving it and hating it at the same time. Which I think is the point. It’s not actually that hard, I guess. Just weirdly balanced. You die lots in a new area, level up a bit, and then charge through killing everything, including a few bosses on the first go.
Apart from that, a bit more of the sexy shirtless vampire game. Which is a lot of fun for a battle royale game. Luckily, I’ve got the difficult trophies (for coming 3rd with each of the 4 types of sexy shirtless vampire) out of the way, so that’s good. They’ll get harder, I’m sure. But for now, they’re quite easy in trio mode.
And then some of the monthly games. Tribes of Midgard seems quite fun so far. Curse of the Dead Gods is just Hades without the charm.
And some GT7. Those times for the gold licenses and circuit experience are driving me mad. When you miss one by a single digit number of milliseconds! And the last update is just taking the piss. It tries to play what I assume is a patronising “This is how you should drive, unlike the AI” YouTube video when you go into Sport mode. But it just comes up with a black screen. Every time. At least you can back out of it and do the races. Until next time.

I was traveling for the wknd so less progress this week but in Elden Ring i took out another couple of cave bosses and a dragon and wandered into Redmane Castle. “Stay away, there’s nothing but death there” the npc outside warned me … “oh yeah?” i thought dismissively and foolishly entered anyway..

Is that the big empty castle with no enemies? Over the bridge from the “collect runes from the soldiers fighting dogs” place?
Completely empty when I eventually went in.
