Once we’ve got past all the ‘I can’t believe it’s Friday already’ chit-chat, it’s been a good week for gaming in our house. Lots of new things to try out, including Ni No Kuni Cross Worlds, Kaiju Wars, and Eternal Threads, though I’ve also continued the comforting run through Assassin’s Creed III. I can feel an ‘in defence of Connor’ article coming up, since I’m so far really enjoying the whole thing.
Gareth was first up this week he’s played the alliterative duo of Divinity Original Sin 2 and Dying Light. Maybe next week he’ll play Divinity Original Sin and Dying Light 2?

Aran meanwhile has continued to battle through Elden Ring. He says, “I’m at the final boss but running around and clearing things up. Also a bit of FIFA 22 career mode. Thought I’d give it a go with Crystal Palace. Currently 8th in the league.”
Steve has mainly played Vampire Masquerade Ron Swanson (Swansong) for an upcoming review. Aside from that, he’s dipped in and out of a few indie games for previews.

Jumping back into Call of Duty Vanguard for the first time since launch, Jim told us, “It remains my favourite COD multiplayer since the original Black Ops, though I’m getting my ass handed to me. I’ve either been thrown into the tough skill-based matchmaking pool, or the only Vanguard players left are die-hard – each lobby is packed with players sporting the pricey new Godzilla and Snoop Dog skins. I’ve also been back to the Bayou in Hunt: Showdown.”
Nic B has played Pogo and Magic – he’s a real creature of habit! He also tried his hand at Slay the Spire, which is “a laugh” apparently. Similarly habitual, his namesake Nick P played the usual smattering of Dead By Daylight, but complimented it with FIFA 22 and more Horizon Forbidden West.

Ade has really been enjoying Sifu, with its “Challenging gameplay, an innovative structure, and kick-ass combat that feels like you’re playing The Raid: The Videogame.” He’s happy to recommend it!
And finally, Tef has been playing We Were Here Forever, the latest walkie-talkie co-op puzzler, spent last weekend with F1 22 for preview, and shared his thoughts on the “Rocket League but golf” game Turbo Golf Racing.
Now then, what have you played?

Lego Star Wars. Pretty much done everything now except replaying all the levels to get the minikits/challenges. It’s been very similar to other Lego games, so I’m not sure why it’s been described as a departure. I’m glad I’m playing on PS5 and it only takes a few seconds to switch planets. It’d be a SLOG if it took a minute to load each time, as you’re constantly having to jump around all the time. It’s still been good, but it’s got lots of glitches and like I say, it’s just another Lego game, but bigger.

Elden farmRing Simulator . I spent too much time this week farming for smithing stones in order to upgrade a new staff i acquired in Raya Lucaria – only to reaslise that when levelled it up it was weaker than my current staff, plus i then found another actual better staff immediately afterwards. and now i’ve used up all my smithing stones …
Also when i mentioned Redmane last week i actually meant Caria Manor – but that’s ok as i noped the heck out of there anyway xD

Finished Bioshock – the final boss fight was a doddle though. I got the “good” ending too because I saved all the little sisters. I dunno, fantastic atmosphere and a good story let down by meh combat, but then I thought the same of Infinite when we had that via PS+ on PS3 back in the day.
So now I’ve the delightful job of picking what to play next from my extensive back log… First though I’m trying to work through my list on Netflix before we cancel our sub in a few weeks time so there’s no rush on picking a game.

Having just about recovered from Covid, I’ve felt able to play games again, although I find the fatigue is still taking it out of me so I’ve not played as much as I’d like. I have made progress in Everybody’s Golf and getting the online trophies before the servers shut in September – just condors to get for that. I have also got the co op trophies in Mercenaries 2 out the way and I’m now concentrating on the single player trophies and being annoyed by the HVTs that decide to keel over dead at the drop of a hat!

After being away from my consoles for some spring holidays, I continued playing Control. Well, what shall I say? It’s probably one of the most bonkers stories in a game I’ve ever played. And I find it very odd reviews don’t seem to have had any problems with it. But ok, I played on. The gameplay is fine, fights have an interesting mix of different mechanics how to approach things, there’s some nice spooky areas in the game, and the maze-like maps are quite good too. It runs ok on the PS5, but some annoying pop-ins occur, which shouldn’t really on such a system. So overall, it’s ok, but in some respects quite a mixed bag.
I also read ‘Project Hail Mary’, an excellent book I can recommend to everyone being into science-y and space-y things.
