Autumn has finally arrived in the UK, with blustery winds and heavy downpours washing away a lot of the recent warm weather, doing so just in time for the autumnal equinox this weekend. It’s really been a “stay inside and play games” kind of week, in other words, and we’ve been doing just that!
This was a bumper week for me being able to reveal what I’ve played recently, with hands on time for newly announced 4X strategy game Millennia, for PSVR 2 ghost ’em up Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord, and a little bit of time with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s TGS 2023 demos. Most of my gaming time, though, was spent playing Payday 3, the returning co-op heist ’em up series that sent me right back to the shenanigans of the earlier games from the early 2010s.
Let’s start with my heisting crew, as I dragged Jim into his first Payday experience, after he’d bounced off previous games without a solid crew to play with. I also gave Nick P his first Payday time, washing away the bad taste that had been left in his mouth by the Payday-alike Rockay City earlier this year – he joined this with some Mortal Kombat 1, a sprinkling of Street Fighter 6 and a dash of Dead by Daylight.
With the new game’s setting in New York, it was only fitting to grab a local to round out the gang, and Miguel stepped right up to the plate. This was far from his first Payday 3 experience, and he was happily leading the way and getting stuck in with the game’s returning stealthy-shootery shenanigans. Outside of that, there was “lots of Fate: Samurai Remnant for review, some Disgaea 7 for review, a splash of Fortnite, and my Playdate handheld console arrived. I’ve been hoarding games for it and I’m super excited to start playing them!”
Moving on to the law abiding citizens out there, and Aran played the “wonderful” Chants of Sennaar, “it’s a puzzle game about translating languages. It’s really chill but offers a good challenge too.” He also didn’t play FIFA, if you know what I mean.
Other than the “aggressively mediocre” Saints Row reboot, Gamoc has been continuing on with Under the Waves, for which he delivered our review this week, and the continually phenomenal Baldur’s Gate 3. “I also played an hour or two of Starfield before the dark urge to return to Baldur’s Gate returned,” he said.
Jason is nearing the end of NEO: The World Ends With You, and opined, “It’s rare that I’d say this, but I think there’s a few too many fights around the middle of the game. Other than that, it’s a lot of fun, and my inner-edgy-teenager is having a blast.”
Right this second, Nic B has been playing Monster Hunter Now, which has exited beta, and Pokémon Go because it’s Pokémon Go, while Ade handed in reviews for both Trine 5 and Super Bomberman R 2, “one of which is great, the other not so much.”
And we’ll round this week out with Steve, who’s been on another “eclectic run” (which sounds like the kind of thing that the Ministry of Silly Walks would regulate). He his a bit of a brick wall within Lies of P, where he’s wondering if he’s got the energy to grind his way to a higher level, while he’s also been playing Mineko’s Night Market and Resident Evil 4 Remake Separate Ways DLC for review.
Now then, what have you been playing?
Andrewww
I finished Deathloop, well, Plus finished it for me, chucking the game off the service. Although I didn’t make it all the way through to the end I had played enough and solved most riddles, etc., and so I watched the end elsewhere. It was very good, and there were few bugs for a Bethesda game.
Next, I’ll play The Quarry, although I dislike that Plus sort of chooses for me, throwing more and more interesting games off the list.
