It’s been the season of chocolate eggs and extended bank holidays, and if your children are still on holiday you may well be hitting the point where they’re hitting each other. Can I suggest some video games to while away the hours? It’s been word games in our house, and Wordscapes on iOS has been the surprise winner of the week. I’ve meanwhile been tinkering away with our Planet Zoo Console Edition review, carrying on with Dragon’s Dogma 2, sampled the idisyncratic delights of the Playdate Catalog and rounded out my playthrough of Unicorn Overlord.
Gamoc’s been having some interesting times in Dragon’s Dogma 2, where his Pawn went off on one and managed to kill a whole city, throwing up some interesting problems for completing quests… until everyone just magically came back to life. Oh, and he also played Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League Season 1, “which is worse.” So that’s… nice?
Another continuing adventure came with Ade’s musical adventure through Hi-Fi Rush, which is still “enormous fun and genuinely laugh out loud funny.” He’s also played Harold Halibut for review, but can’t talk about that yet.
Steve has been plugging away at his PC review backlog, now that it’s working properly again, and has found that Outcast: A New Beginning has really grown on him as it’s gone on.
Miguel has been all about the number 2 this week (with one exception), as he prepares for a guest appearance on Sesame Street. That’s meant he’s been playing Dragon’s Dogma 2, Helldivers 2, Content Warning, and Fight Crab 2.
Meanwhile, Aran’s curtailed gaming time this week has meant he’s been playing Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series. “I just needed something a bit laid back, and it is a good platformer choice for that. Quite short games but decent.”
And finally, Tef has done a little bit of Helldivers 2, a little bit of Lightyear Frontier for an early access review, but he too has not got much meaningful gaming under his belt since the extra long weekend.
Now then, what have you been playing?

I continued playing through Ghost of Tsushima, which is beautiful and I keep taking screenshots, but it also starts to feel a long game already, with far too much content, and I haven’t even finished the first act. I also watched the movie Life, which I missed back then, and I found it quite good (to shorten the wait for the new Alien movie in August, which looks promising).

I’m Inching ever closer to the end of Elden Ring, late area and bosses are challenging but i’m not rushing. I also played the .. let’s just call it .. “Ponytail Booty Battle” demo which was decent enough but ultimately the combat didn’t appeal to me.

Do you consider it easier than Bloodborne? You seem to dash through this one in comparison… (I still got too many Dark Souls games on my backlog, but at some point…)

It’s way more accessible than the regular DS games, the open world nature means whenever you run into a wall, you can just head off in another direction and return when you feel more able. The sorcery is also powerful if you want to play with ranged attacks – or dual wield magic and a blade as i do for the best of both worlds. You are given very little in the way of waypointing and quest tracking, so that can be frustrating at times (plenty of online guides to get you on track though).
If you have online, there’s plenty of activity atm as players prepare for the dlc in June. If you don’t have online there are a whole collection of spirit ashes ( a kind of companion) to collect and upgrade. These come in various forms and can be summoned to boss fights and also in certain areas of the open world.

Ok, thanks..! I’m tempted to dive in, but there’s my backlog, and my game time is limited…
