Another busy week here at TSA, compounded by two of our crew jetting off to Gamescom to play a million games in a few days. It’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it. For those of us stopping at home, we’ve still had plenty of things to play, and I’ve been spending a lot of time with Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave while also punishing myself with a return to Elden Ring on the Switch 2. It’s a surprisingly great place to play, even if things are obviously tuned down for the less powerful hardware. Besides that I got to experience part of the new Gears of War E-Day campaign, and really enjoyed returning to the classic Gears action. I’m hoping there are a few more surprises to come in the finished game, though!
Nic B has also been playing things, but he can’t tell you about them until next week. They probably involve Mushas and Onis, but it’s hard to be sure.
Meanwhile, Aran played Lou’s Lagoon and Resonance A Plague Tale Legacy for review. He says that, “Lou’s Lagoon is good but needs some fixes to it, while Resonance is fantastic.”
He’s stayed very busy though, squeezing in a bit from his backlog. He says, “I’ve also delved into my backlog and started Tales of Kenzera: Zau. I’m really enjoying it so far. The world is well designed and the narrative is very well written.”
This week, Jim has been playing Gallipoli, a hardcore online shooter set during World War I. He says, “Compared to Call of Duty – with all its exhaustive bells and whistles – it feels pretty pared back though this dials up the historic immersion and has had me thinking more carefully about where I place my shots rather than spraying and praying every time an enemy enters my crosshairs.”
Jason seemed oddly downbeat this week, as one of the biggest FTP shooters has wormed its way into his life. He told us, “Overwatch has claimed me. I’ve been doing other stuff for various reviews, but Overwatch is where it’s at. I have become one of those people. I am sorry.” Don’t be sorry Jason, just be good.
Tuffcub played MGS4 and the COD Beta. His verdict? “It was very odd.” I’m not sure if that’s particularly good, or bad, but it is intriguing. I might have to check out the Switch2 version to see how it’s faring.
Gareth is still playing [redacted] and its taken over his gaming life, so that’s it. He is also rewatching Ted Lasso though he rightly wonders whether that seems relevant somehow? I really don’t know about checking in for Season 4. I really enjoying Ted Lasso, but the last season felt like it was a decent place to end it.
Steve has played a bit more Moonlight Peaks and is just about ready to write up his review. He says, “Obviously, that kind of farming sim can be played for hundreds of hours so picking when to call it and make a judgment is often tricky. Aside from that I am currently downloading Resonance: Plague Tale Legacy which I’ve been looking forward to.”
