French site JV247 is reporting that during an interview at a French video game publisher the site was told, off the record, that Sony almost added backwards compatibility to a recent PS3 firmware update, but changed their mind at the last minute.
However, the site was told that the changes could come in a future update, and if they do add it it’s because Sony want to start selling PS2 games on the PlayStation Store. Interesting news, but naturally take it with a pinch of salt until Sony say otherwise.

I’ve read in MCV that most games publishers won’t be releasing PS2 titles in the new year effectively killing the format.
I would have thought PS2 game downloads will follow shortly (along with BC obviously)

I would like a backwards compatibility update, just so I can play MGS3 then finally play 4!
