Pain To Come Out On Blu-ray
Looks like a greatest hits, if you’ll excuse the pun. No? Ah, well.

Yeah, news to us, but it appears that Sony are planning to release Pain on Blu-ray early next month. It’s not entirely clear from the page on the PlayStation site, but the blurb mentions 15 characters and an online mode which would suggest the complete package, DLC and all, and the screenshots dotted around show off more than just the first area, but the info box then goes on to say that you can “download extra PAIN characters and cool updates from PlayStation Store” so who knows. We’ll chase SCEE on this today to see if we can get some answers, because this is the first we’ve seen of this.

Screenshot 1 is the Amusement Park expansion, I think, and 3 and 4 look like the next two as well, so the disc looks very much like Pain:The story so far…
Good move putting it out on disc, as a lot of people have been moaning that when you add all the DLC up, it’s the price of a disc game!

but really is the game worth coming out on blu-ray?
I dont think it is…

Only worth it on disc if you want the “whole package” rather than separately purchasing about 15 pieces of DLC… But then again, it will never be “the whole package” as they’re going to keep developing it. Also, I quit like the piecemeal DLC approach – just buy the bits you want, don’t buy the bits you don’t.
OK, to clarify: Good move for people who choose not to have their PS3’s online, for whatever reason.

Forget Pain, I want Wipeout HD on Blu-ray, complete with a couple of extra tracks for about £20.
Although I liked the mini-games in FlatOut, so maybe I will rent this. Just not sure the idea could sustain a whole game.

PAIN works well because you can fire it up from the XMB for a quick go or two… If you’ve got to get up, change disks and all that shenanigans then it sort of misses the point

That’s what I was thinking. I play Warhawk and BlastFactor because there there on the XMB tempting me.

Pointless putting PAIN on blu-ray, the games fun for about 10 mins but then gets boring, also i would have thought the majority of people would have already purchased this!

dont see the point! bad move.
Ive got pain and its fun and all that but i dont get why they would put it on disc. maybe there are people with no internet connection wanting it to play single player but i doubt it and lets be honest if you have no internet then having a ps3 is pointless anyway.
This probably wont end up happening, it would be silly

“if you have no internet then having a ps3 is pointless anyway.”
Don’t be absurd – of course it is worthwhile owning the console without an internet connection! You’ll still got some great games like MGS4, Uncharted, BioShock, Oblivion, Valkyria, Dead Space, etc, even if you can’t go online.
Heck, games like Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 are still good buys at the right price, even if you’re not online. It’s a great feature but hardly the be all and end all of the console.

fair enough, but to be honest its rare that you find anyone with no internet connection these days unless you know any amish people or something so that was probably the least relevant part of my point. i gather most people with a ps3 probably DO have a connection and play online.

I have several friends with PS3s and it really annoys me that they don’t really bother connecting it to the internet more than once a year even though they easily could.

I don’t like very much this game so I’m not waiting for it to be released on BD.

Annoyingly, I have only a bit of the DLC for pain, so not enough to say I’ve got the whole picture, but too much to ever consider buying the disc!

Only around about two thirds of PS3s have been online according to the last figures I read from Sony.

really, thats surprising. though to be honest a lot of single player versions of games are awesome too, im liking killzone 2 single player at the moment plus burnout was awesome as was uncharted so fair points you lot! i suck for my comment and take it back. though i still believe pain should be left to psn
