Although we’ve not seen the survey for ourselves, TheSixthAxis has learnt that Sony are conducting research into Home, its users and what they think about the service. Home, technically, is still in Beta, so any nuances and issues are easily leveled at its version number, but as we’ve seen recently (with the likes of Xi and some great new Spaces) Home is something that Sony are very keen to get right.
Hence the survey, which was picked up by TripleChat.com yesterday. Some of the questions were your usual marketing fluff designed to get more out of you than you think, but some could prompt discussion on features and additions to Home that are still absent from the service despite being talked about some years back. Mentioned is Trophy Support (the ability to show off your silverware within Home), music and video sharing, better clubhouses, voice chat and, yes, more dance moves.
Also referenced is the Home Theater, and those taking the survey are asked what they would like to see more of in the underused Theater, including TV shows, stand-up comedy, sports and music videos. Presumably people are bored of the same few videogame trailers on repeat in there. The most interesting question though is the one on new spaces, where the survey asked if there would be any interest in a Space dedicated to the PlayStation brand.
In that potential new Space, the survey hints, there could be a museum of old PS1 and PS2 games (aw, Sony, your ‘history’ is so cute), appearances from Sony staff, demos of Sony products, trailers of upcoming games and some new mini-games, presumably based on PlayStation favourites like “Guess the Leak!” and “Woah, that’s the same value in pounds as is it in dollars!”. A nice idea, but a PlayStation Space within PlayStation Home is all a bit too meta for us.

Quicker loading, more streamlined updating, so you don’t have to download every single area each time something really minor is updated,

Damn iPhone,
how odd that there isn’t already a PlayStation space, Sony are trying to punt something to companies that they themselves have yet to do… Odd, wonder how much they’ll charge to get in to that Play$tation museum

Yes automated background downloading please. Oh and if the last area you were in when you last quit home needs an update, how about letting you join in an area that DOESN’T need an update, rather than forcing you to wait.
More game launch support, naturally.
Games for apartments and clubhouses – pool tables, arcade machines, bowling lanes etc
Get rid of the home theatre, and let you watch the videos on an in-apartment tv – change channels to view the different ’screens’. Running from theatre to theatre is pointless, and it’s not as though you get a shared viewing experience out of it.

Bowling lanes for apartments would be great. Then you could just invite your friends and skip the pointless virtual queue. Unfortunately I guess we would have to buy it for too much real world money in the store.

Yes, paying real money is the ultimate downside of Home.

I’d pay real money for a pool table in my own space. And an arcade cabinet.

I haven’t been on Home since it was first made open to everyone, I have a passing interest in whats going on but not enough to spend some time loading it up. I’d rather be playing a game!

Home sounds like it’s getting a bit better with some more support but I still haven’t logged in for ages because I can not be bothered with the constant updates and the loading times.

“Woah, that’s the same value in pounds as is it in dollars!”
Haha!
Anyway, only ventured into Home the other day to ‘finish’ Xi.
To me, it is still kind of pointless

Well.. uh.. they could give us what they told us they were going to give us in the first place. That would be a nice start. It’s good to see content slowly added but the main thing that bugs me about home is the eerie lack of any kind of footfall sound effect. It’s just really weird.

I think they should add the Waltz and the Cha Cha cha to my dance moves.
Can’t be bothered to write anything else please see my earlier rant about this service

Make it good! lol
Its rather pointless atm. No one goes on it (on my friends list anyway) and evn if ya wana go on, its constant updates and downloads!
I really do think that if Sony could streamline the service and have it as the PS3 interface (sorta replacing the XMB) it’d be good.

They should really find a way to integrate Home into the XMB. I find it’s a chore to sit through all those loading screens just to check out new things. It’s also annoying having to load each and every location, as well download any updates for them. I rarely use Home because of this, so if it was more streamlined and easier to start up, I’d probably use it more.
I also think it’s lacking somewhat. I know it’s a beta and I know they’re adding more to it all the time, but for me as a person who just wants to spend time with friends, there’s not a great deal. They seem to be spending more time making countless spaces for games that I don’t own, rather than spending time making my Home a better place. Allow us to play music into our apartments as well as watch videos through a TV. When they first announced Home, I used to imagine watching actual movies with my friends in my apartment, or having a party on the balcony with some music. If they add that, I’m there.

I completely agree. Watching a movie with a bud from separate houses was what initially sparked my love for Home. I even showed it to my friends, who also loved it, they thought it was “Cool!”.
Then Home cheated on me, and did not deliver what it promised. I don’t know if I will ever forg…
Whoops.
