At the time of writing, Amazon were claiming that God Of War III would be released on the 30th of October, 2009. “This item will be released on October 30, 2009,” proclaims the site. Odd, because every other site on the planet reckons the third person brawler will be out next March. Still, the earlier-than-everyone-else release date has prompted buy through for the online retailer of over 70% and a rank of 437.
We don’t know why it’s so early on Amazon, and March 2010 elsewhere, but we’ll endeavour to find out.
Thanks, colmshan1990.

Thinking about it, Oct 09 was always the hopeful release date before any screens or videos had been shown.

They announced in the Sony E3 conference that it will release in March 2010. Wierd

A mistake probably, or they just don’t know when it really is out.

I agree. I think this will just be a standard placeholder date.

Unlikley. I think amazon and play.com just guess dates most of the time.

I agree, I have seen this so many times especially with Amazon. They will put a random date and then 1 week before, they will change it. I am 99% certain that it will not be released in October 09

No. It’s just a placeholder date. Infact it was already confirmed for March (it was said at e3 was it not??)

Meh I dont think it will be true but if it is, I dont think Sony will be spreading out their exclusives!
Unless GT5 fills up GOW3’s place?

You don’t think they will spread out their exclusives? I think they probably will.

I didnt mean that. I should put “very well” at the end!
Cause yeah, I think they would. A christmas period with GOW3, Uncharted 2, R&C AND COD6 etc is a big christmas.

May be a lie to get people pre order? how about that?

Oh come on. Check out Play.com and the date is March 2010. I’ll wager £10 with you Nofi that the Amazon October date is just a placeholder.
If I were still as cynical as I used to be then I’d say that this is a slow news day and the above article drive traffic to the site. But I’m no longer that cynical so I won’t.

Sorry Nofi, I only questioned the article as I think you answered your own question – “Still, the earlier-than-everyone-else release date has prompted buy through for the online retailer of over 70% and a rank of 437.”
Do I get negative TSA Points for suggesting a slow news day?

I think they’re touting for extra pre-orders

Yeah but you would think people are not that stupid to think that Amazon would be releasing it before everyone else!

Those that aren’t members of sites such as these or aren’t massive gamers might take a huge organisation like Amazon at their word.
I agree with CC. Amazon seem to post earlier releases on a lot of things. I bet the Pre-Orders have already begun rolling in. Imagine the disappointment when in October Amazon begin the ‘Sorry this has been delayed’ e-mails!!

Agreed, Sony surely wouldn’t miss a chance to advertise what is essentially it’s biggest release for the PS3 being brought forward drastically. A pre-Christmas release would boost console sales massively too I’d imagine…
Sony can’t be so bad with marketing etc. to not announce this… can they?

Strange eh?
Play.com & Amazon tend to guess release dates quite alot, so thats probably whats happened
Still would be awesome if it was released by then

It’s been on the site as that date for about a year. You’ll see a lot of sites just pick a friday at the end of a month or a quarter and not update it until an exact release date is announced. Play.com is a prime example

It really must be a very slow news day!
