Finally. Gran Turismo 5 will be released in March 2010.

It’s been a long time coming but we finally have a solid release window for the title as the series’ producer Kaz Yamauchi took to the stage during the Sony conference at TGC to announce a release period of March 2010. The Negative Nancys out there could say that they were expecting it this year or that they wanted an exact date, but at least we have something! If you really want to grab at straws (is that even a phrase?) then the date is for Japan only which means there is a tiny chance it will come out here earlier. I doubt it though and suspect it will be either a worldwide release, or have a delay when coming over here.

Though if the date isn’t what you wanted, he also revealed that there will be over 950 cars (951?),  Over 20 courses (21?) and over 70 variations (71?) on those tracks. Then there’s a new physics system, damage, movable objects on tracks and new hybrid and electric cars. Single player and spilt screen both feature in the arcade mode. GT mode includes a world map, garage, car dealer, tuning shop, championship race and license test. Then finally, the online mode plays host to an open lobby, a private room, text/voice chat, an online photo album, an online replay album and the option to export your replays to youtube!

That’s it for now, as even more features will be announced in the future. Until then though, sit back and absorb.

  1. Hoping for a 2009 release. Well that ends the rumors

    • June 4, 2009 – Kazunori Yamauchi: “We can release Gran Turismo 5 whenever we want.”

August 22, 2009 – Kazunori Yamauchi: “GT5 will be released shortly after this date [October 1, 2009]”.

September 24, 2009 – SCE: “Haha, suckers! **** you! You want GT5? Go swing for it!”

  2. Can’t really say that I am surprised, but disappointed none the less.

I’m glad theyre not shipping until it’s completely finished, but I can’t help but think they’ve dropped the ball with no release before Christmas.

I was getting all excited, and in my excitement ready to get a wheel and camera just for GT! Will my level of enthusiasm stretch out for 6 months?

  3. ah well, leaves more room for Uncharted 2 ;D

  4. Enjoyed all the digs at the excessive se of “over”… Nice one! You missed a trick though: a release window of March 2010 (31st?)

    • “se” = an appallingly mistyped “use”.

  5. Oh, i wanted it out in time for xmas :( at least i will have enough money by then to afford it.

  6. Just gives me more time with Forza 3 which is shapeing up to be a much better game. by the time GT5 comes out Forza will have had enough DLC to boost it with more cars and tracks.
I was really looking forward to GT5 but its another one of them games that might just be too late to be in the collection.

  7. Probably a good thing really, already enough games coming out from now until the end of the year to wet my appetite for gaming.

  8. Coming out at the same time as God of War III and Heavy Rain and about a million other titles that didn’t want to release whilst the economy is down the pan and game sales are slow

  9. With the recent release of Dirt2 and NFS Shift I can wait until march 2010. Hope it will be an outstanding release…

  10. Can’t say im not disappointed, but still, this should be one hell of a game with the time taken to make!

  11. Maybe I should buy NFS Shift then to keep me occupied ’till March 2010.

    • Wayyyy ahead of you, man ;)

  12. I’m gutted…i expected this to be released in december. It feel’s like it’s been in development for years, Oh wait! it has. I can’t wait for GT5 but is the delay due to extra development or the fear of going up against Forza3?
I know,,,GT5 is head and shoulders above Forza, but Forza3’s been in development for a fraction of the time that GT5 has. I think PS3 will own christmas this year but if GT5 had made the december slot,,PS3 would have broke all records.

    • I wouldnt have thought so, they’re on different platforms so never the twain shall meet, and all that..

  13. Is this confirmed as worldwide? Kotaku and Joystiq are reporting it as Japan only, and I’ve seen some buzz on Twitter to the same effect. Guess the rest of the world will have to wait. Holiday 2010 then?

    • Thats what im fearing to. GT also comes out first in Japan then rest of the world later in the year, so xmas 2010 is seems :(

    • Yeah that’s what I was wondering. Everywhere else is saying that this is the Japanese release date. Hopefully its not long after for the UK.

      • My two predicted dates are May/June, or Holiday 2010.

      • It says in this article its a Japanese date

      • Exactly. JAPAN people!

    • It’s not worldwide – it’s just for Japan. I was told this morning that individual territories would get their own announcements in due course.

      • I know it’s not a worldwide release date, but hopefully the other territories get a release within a week or so of Japan.

  14. I am officially a Negative Nancy! I bought a Driving Force GT wheel in anticipation of a December release and am pretty disappointed to see that the ‘Q4 09′ date has been stretched as far as it’ll go. As a non-PSP owner I can’t help but feel a bit resentful about the PSP GT taking up Polyphony’s time, but I’m a grown man so I’ll get over it – and I can hopefully get somewhere with Formula 1 CE (which is great with a wheel).

As for the European release date for GT5, it would be madness to delay releasing it in Europe which, I believe, is GT’s largest market. Driving games surely require less localisation than most other genres? We drive on the same side of the road as the Japanese, so it can’t be that!

    • In racing everbody drives on the same side of the road! Unless they are overtaking someone…

      • Fair point, well made. I meant for the cockpit view, whether the driver was on the left or right hand side of the car, but wasn’t being particularly serious.

      • In GT they tend to leave the driver on the side hw would be in the country the car was made.

  15. I was hoping for December, but it not like there’s going to be a shortage of games between now and March, so I guess its not too long a wait..  Just need to find another use for my GT wheel.  Hmm, still havent tried it with Dirt2 yet, guess I got tinme to use it now…
