We know that ‘Project Needlemouse’ is only going to contain Sonic (finally leaving behind his so-called ’shitty’ friends) but it’s emerged this morning that once the Needlemouse moniker gives way SEGA’s new Sonic title might end up being called Sonic The Hedgehog 4.
Firstly, check out the public whois record for sonicthehedgehog4.com – the guy that apparently registered the domain – Brandon Laurino. Who? Well, it appears Brandon’s the Director of Online and Community over at SEGA, so if anyone knows which domain to register, it would be him.
If Brandon’s name is familiar, though, it’s because you might remember him from the US PlayStation Blog…

I would LOVE a new Sonic game. I’ve not enjoyed Sonic since my Mega Drive days. I know a lot of people would disagree and say Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast was brilliant, but I hated it.
2D Sonic plz.

If it’s not 2D only then I’m not interested

I believe in the teaser it stated it was 2D gameplay, most likely with 3D graphics, which is absolutely fine by me.
I wouldn’t mind it being a HD remake of the original game to be honest, but a new game sounds just as good, as long as it has awesome environments, ie, not cities or whatever.

3D Graphics are fine but if there’s a piece of 3D gameplay then I’m out

Agreed!. But i also don’t mind if it was 2.5D like little big planet. I’ll buy this for sure if this game was 4 players. I hope sega do what nintendo did. I just want it alittle retro.

The only problem with 2.5D would be if it holds up the flow, yes it could have a place on some levels, but on the whole the game may benefit from just being straight up fast 2D so you don’t get caught on scenery etc… halting the flow

CC, how did you find the sonic levels in Unleashed?
Because they had 3D bits and I thought they were amazing – The levels as a whole, not just the 3D bits.

By todays platforming standards they were good, but not a patch on the original trilogy, the side-on 2D bits were the closest the franchise has come to the originals, but it was too zoomed out to be functional.

What about bonus stages though? Even Sonic 2 and 3 had 3D bonus levels.

I think the Chaos Emerald zones are allowed to be 3D.

Something like New Super Mario Brothers would be nice, a pseudo 3D but with the character and style of the old games

I didn’t know anything about New Super Mario Bros (Wii) so I just checked it out on Youtube, couldn’t see any 3D bits at all just the modern version of the old parallax scrolling that always existed in Sonic games anyway… So yeah that’d work
The 4 player co-op looks even better than LBP’s awesome stuff, hopefully a follow up to Project Needlemouse will maintain what sounds to be 2D only gameplay, but have similar drop-in, drop-out co-op

That would definately be awesome. I loved most of the sonic games and a new one in the style of the first 4 (Sonic & Knuckles included) would be great!

I want Sonic, not some ott farsical with camera views that make me want to kick my f**king telly ! If it’s a 2d/3d side scroller only with 1 or 2 mini games for crystals , wierd sound effects and the occasional red or yellow spring then I’ll be a happy chappy. If not then Sonic can get Ring sting and do one for all I care ….

The Sonic levels of the last game were fantastic!
So if this can build on those, whilst keeping it simple and away from those awful other characters, then I’m there!

Sonic the Hedgehog 4? This is possibly the best news I’ve had in a while. All I can possibly hope for is a lack of voice acting and I’ll be as happy as a pig in shit.

Would he have a gmail email account? Surely a company one?
And I’m hoping Sonic Team find some way of fumucking this up, because otherwise the universe is going to implode.

The leaked Sony-Sega meeting document mentions an anniversary Sonic bundle for 99$; maybe it’s linked to project needlemouse. I hope so.

The only decent Sonic games are the 2D computer games… imo
